NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

It was another busy weekend for football last weekend as all our teams saw some action. Due to illness our under-8s had to get a loan of two players from the Development Squad in their games at home to Glencormac Utd. Those two players Jake Fitzsimons and Jack Gavin played starring roles on the day along with regulars Tyler Doyle, David McCormack and Colin Healy.

Our 9’s also played at home and played out an excellent series of games against Greystones B. On the day among the players who starred were Alex Ryan, JV Kelly and Leon O’Connor.

The under-10s have moved up a couple of sections and despite a good first half showing they found the going tough in the second half away to Ashford Rovers Blue. However, there was plenty of honest effort and Pat Carey and Nichita Neaga were among those who shone.

Likewise after there fine results this season the 11’s have been moved up to the top section where they played away to Enniskerry Red but unfortunately the game went the way of the home side. Best for the 11’s were Cillian Coffey, Cormac Chance and Dylan Dunleavy.

No luck again for the 12’s as they went down 7-2 away to Greystones B Patrick Martin scored both Newtown goals and he along with Jack Coughlan and Keira Farrelly all battled to the very end of the game.

The 14’s were dealt a double injury blow early in the week when two of their best performers this season so far Ryan Clarke (hand) and Jason Carthy (knee) were ruled out for a number of weeks. Everyone at the juniors wish the two lads a speedy recovery and a quick return to action.

However, the team travelled to take on Arklow Town A and they came home with all three points after edging out the home side by the odd goal in nine. Martin Kelly led the way with a hat trick while Bobby Dowling and Dar- ragh Heffernan added the others. On the day Kelly, Shane Synnott and Bogdan Rusu were among the star performers.

The following are the fixtures for the weekending Saturday/ Sunday Octtober 21/22: under-8s away to St Anthony’s Green ko to be confirmed; under-9s at home to Glencormac United ko Saturday at 10.30 a.m.; under-10s at home to Arklow Town White ko Sunday at 11.45 a.m.; under-11s at home to Arklow Utd Stripes ko Sunday at 10.30 a.m.; under-12s – fixture to be confirmed; under-14s away to Crettyard Utd ko Saturday at 12.30 p.m. (Wicklow/ Carlow Cup) (Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)

Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does. We had intended to have one player but it looks like we May be able to put forward two contestants (all will be revealed).
