Rescue team meets Minister over new base

-

A ‘common sense solution’ would see the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team relocate to a more functional base down the road from their current home, according to a Minister Simon Harris.

The Minister welcomed members of the team to Leinster House last week where they were meeting with the Minister with reponsibility for the OPW, Kevin Boxer Moran.

Praising the ‘incredible’ team for their work, Minister Harris described their current base in Roundwood as ‘not fit for purpose’. The Minister for Health saw the building for himself recently when he visited to present the group with Department of Health National Lottery funding.

‘ The team had a sensible solution in that there is state owned land at the rear of the Roundwood Garda Station, so, as a former Minister for the Office of Public Works, I as able to work with the team to progress their plans,’ said Minister Harris.

‘I am confident that we can work to make this happen.’ Minister Harris desribed the team’s meeting with Minister Moran as ‘very positive’.

‘If all goes to plan, this common sense solution will see the team moving down the road to a much more functional base that will allow them to respond to call outs quicker,’ he said.

Earlier this year, Mountain Rescue Ireland’s annual report revealed that the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team were the busiest services in the country last year, responding to 66 call-outs each.
