Man refused to leave scene of fight

-

AN Arklow man was fined €350 at Wednesday’s district court sitting for a public order offence.

Kevin O’Regan, 39 Church View, Arklow, faced two separate public order charges from 2016, one of which was struck out.

On December 18, 2016, at 3.25 a.m. the gardaí responded to reports of a fight which had broken out on Main Street and involved up to seven males.

O’Regan was at the scene and was asked to leave. He appeared to be heading away when he turned back and became aggressive with another male.

He again refused a garda direction to leave the scene and was arrested. He quickly calmed down in the back of the garda car and apologised for his behaviour.

O’Regan received a fixed charge penalty notice but didn’t have the funds to pay it.

He also faced a public order charge from Arklow, Main Street, on January 1 2016. However, on this occasion Mr O’Regan insisted that he had never received a fixed penalty charge.

This charge was struck out by Judge David Kennedy.

However, Mr O’Regan was fined €350 for the public order charge from December 2016 and given five months to pay.
