SHINING LIGHTS!

Defending champions welcome Carnew B for opener

-

DEFENDING champions Ashford A will face a tricky opener in the first round of the Wicklow Cup after the draw was made on Monday night.

The Ballinalea Park men will welcome Carnew AFC B for what should be a very interesting clash between the Premier Division outfit and the Division 3 men from the Back Alley.

This clash could produce the classic Samson and Goliath affair with Carnew AFC’s second team no doubt hoping to cause what would be a major upset.

The draw produced a glut of intriguing encounters.

Last year’s beaten finalists Newtown United must make the journey to Woodlands to face the men of Greystones United as the Magpies look to their barren run in the Wicklow Cup.

There will be a humdinger of a local derby clash when Arklow United A welcome neighbouring rivals Arklow Celtic A to Ferndale Park.

Glencormac United will take on Ashford Rovers B while Roundwood AFC will welcome Dearg Celtic.

Rooster Park will play host to what should be a right battle between Conary United and Wicklow Town B. Rathnew AFC B hit the road to face St Patrick’s while Ballywaltrim FC play host to Wicklow Town AFC A.

The full draw for the first round of the Wicklow Cup is as follows: Conary United v Wicklow Town AFC B; Ballywaltrim FC v Wicklow Town AFC A; Greystones United v Newtown United; Arklow United A v Arklow Celtic A; Rathnew AFC B v St. Patricks AFC; Ashford Rovers A v Carnew AFC B; Roundwood AFC v Dearg Celtic; Glencormac United v Ashford Rovers B.

A total of eight teams received byes through to the next round.

Byes: Arklow United B, Avonmore FC, Arklow Celtic B, Aughrim Rangers, St. Peters FC, Shamrock Celtic, Rathnew AFC A, Carnew AFC A.
