Quality rugby enjoyed by minis teams on another busy weekend

-

WICKLOW RFC’s minis teams had another busy weekend.

On Sunday morning (October 22), Wicklow’s Ashtown Lane was a hive of activity with both boys’ and girls’ blitzes taking place in cold bright conditions.

Meanwhile, Wicklow’s under-11s and under-12s boys made the trip to Enniscorthy where they played in the rain and cold.

In Wicklow, dry bright conditions made for a great morning’s rugby.

The under-7 to under-10 boys entertained their Enniscorthy counterparts while the under-14 girls hosted teams from Enniscorthy and Greystones.

There was great running rugby on display from all the teams with some very competitive matches played.

Wicklow’s minis at all levels showed the progress they have made since the start of the season and used their skillset to great advantage.

Wicklow’s under-8s took advantage of the bigger pitches this week to move the ball wide at every opportunity.

The under-10s also had great matches against tough opposition and showed their ability to work as a team when they came under pressure.

The weather told a different story in Enniscorthy with cold rainy conditions making for sloppy conditions.

The under-11s played in the old GAA showgrounds in Enniscorthy in a three way fixture against Enniscorthy and Wexford.

The teams made light of the conditions to serve up a good brand of free flowing running rugby.

Strong teamwork was evident on the day with the boys working well to keep the ball alive and provide strong support at the breakdown.

There were some excellent contests with all games being played in excellent spirits.

Enniscorthy RFC hosted Wicklow’s under-12s in their own grounds and the lads were forced to work hard to adapt their game plan to the sloppy conditions on the day.

The result was some great heads up rugby which brought out Wicklow’s under-12s’ speed and agility and their determination to slog it out until the final whistle.

Minis train on Sunday mornings at Ashtown Lane.
