‘I really enjoyed

HARRY KENNY’S parting gift to the Carlisle Grounds was a victory over his former club Shamrock Rovers and the Hoops legend admits that he will miss the seaside venue.

Kenny will resign as Seagulls boss after Bray Wanderers’ clash with Cork City on Friday but he has left the door open to his current employers should they need to call upon his expertise in the future.

“I said that to the board already. I’d have absolutely no problem in helping out, if they want me to get involved with helping out selecting the manager as well but they know the scene, they know the League of Ireland and they’ll have plenty of help around Bray”, reason Kenny, before adding tongue-in-cheek: “Sure didn’t they do well the last time appointing me!”

Kenny was responsible for charming many of the Wanderers squad to the Co. Wicklow club but with the vast majority’s deals set to expire this year, he is unsure of their stance on their own futures.

“I haven’t really spoken to them about that but with all that’s gone on, I don’t know. The league is crazy, fellas are only on oneyear contracts and there’s a huge amount of movement in the league apart from the top teams where fellas will stay because they can play in Europe. But from there down, there’s an awful lot of movement in the league so we’ll see what happens.”

Friday’s success over Rovers left Bray within five points of the Tallaght club and Kenny can’t help but wonder what might have been had his club’s season ran a bit smoother.

“There’s huge regret. I’ve said that we wanted to improve on last year and in my own head I was thinking that if we could get up to fourth then we’d have a chance of getting Europe and it’s turned out that way but that’s life.

“Stuff happened and so be it, we’ve to move on and get the club motoring again next year and get a bit of finance in.

“It’s a great little club, I’ve been around for a few years and I enjoyed my time.

“I certainly enjoyed it last year when there was no (off-field) stuff – we got on with the work and got up the table and got into IrnBru Cup which was a nice distraction; we weren’t too clever in that but anyway, that’s life.

“I really enjoyed my time here. I really did. There’s a lot of good people around this club and I enjoyed working with them.
