Arklow’s Positive Ageing Week ends on a high with tea dance

-

POSITIVE Ageing Week in Arklow drew to a close with an enjoyable tea dance in the Portview Day Care Centre and the week, which focuses on getting all generations celebrating ageing in their local community, was deemed a huge success.

The week had been officially launched in Starbucks at the Bridgewater by former TD and deputy leader of Fianna Fáil Mary O’Rourke and Minister for Health Simon Harris.

‘ The weather was great all week for us and it was our most successful Ageing Week so far,’ said club treasurer Gertie Salley.

The celebration has grown year-by-year and participants enjoyed a week filled with a variety of events, including the tea dance, a dinner dance, harvest thanksgiving, coffee morning, and a day out in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. The coffee morning was in aid of the Asthma Society and Care and Repair, and they raised €450 for the two local charities. Gertie said they also had a great day out in Glendalough and held a football blitz involving local national schools, where a total of 90 children played the game.

‘I just want to thank Arklow Bank of Ireland, Bridgewater Shopping Centre and O’Mahoney’s, who all sponsored us,’ said Gertie.
