ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. And 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Evening Mass: The celebratio­n of the 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday Evening Mass has resumed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

The Rosary: October is the month of the Rosary. We will pray for all children and families inour parish. Please join us at 2.45 p.m. in the church every Monday to Friday during October to say the rosary.

Wednesday Prayer Meetings: Continue each Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room four of St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Male Voice Choir: Rehearsals for our Parish Male Voice Choir take place every Thursday at 11 a.m. There will be tea or coffee available in St Anne’s Resource Centre from 10.30 a.m.

Altar List of the Dead – Envelopes and Sheets: Altar list of the dead envelopes and sheets are available at the back of the church. All, whose names are listed will be remembered at Masses on the feast of All Saints, the feast of All Souls.

Remembranc­e Mass: On Sunday, November 5, at 6 p.m. we will remember all of our parishione­rs who have died during the past year, as well as praying for the bereaved, particular­ly those who have lost loved ones in recent years.

Remembranc­e Stole: If you would like to honour the memory of a deceased loved one on the stole, please place a piece of cloth (distinctiv­e and with personal associatio­ns approximat­ely 10x15cm or 6’x4’) in the basket at the back of the church and it will be added to the stole for All Soul’s Day on November 2.

Christmas Fair 2017: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 3, This is our main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. This year, we are appealing to any members of our congregati­on who May feel they can help with sponsorshi­p of the prize money. If you can help, please speak to Fr John, Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacramentf­rom 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Rememberin­g a Loved One: Apostolic Work provides Mass Kits to priests in poor parishes in developing countries. Each kit can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one with an engraving on the chalice, so they are continuall­y remembered in Mass. A donation of €350 will cover the cost of a complete Mass kit and a simple inscriptio­n. The kit includes vestments, altar linens, chalice and ciborium in a light metal box for travel.

Youth 2000: Youth 2000 meetings have resumed at 8 p.m. on Thursday nights in St Anne’s Church. We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds, to join Youth 2000 in St Anne’s Church, Shankill, every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship, followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Film Night This Saturday night: The October Film Night will take place this Saturday night at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre when the film being screened will be George Steven’s ‘Shane’ starring Jean Arthur, Brandon De Wilde, Van Heflin, Alan Ladd, and Jack Palance. There is a 30 Minutes Added Attraction: ‘The three Tenors in Rome – 1990 Finale Medley.’ Admission free – all welcome.

BOOK SALE

On Saturday, November 4, the November First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre between 10 a.m. And 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday and next Monday due to the October Bank Holiday. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. And 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

Our juvenile Academy is for both boys and girls from four to six years of age and is in action every Saturday morning from10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Shanganagh Castle. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Last Saturday week the under-nine boys’ footballer­s had two great games against St Mary’s of Saggert and this was followed by our under-11 girls’ football teams which took on FoxCab in some exciting games all the matches were played in the castle.

Last Sunday week we hosted an under-eight camogie blitz of two teams each in the castle which also included Bray Emmets, Cuala, and Stars of Erin. The under-nine camogie team travelled to a blitz hosted by Cuala and also included St Jude’s.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Due to storm ‘Ophelia’ last Monday week the scheduled AGM of SARA had to be cancelled and was held last Monday at 3 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre.

WALKING INITIATIVE

This Monday local historian and author Rob Goodbody will lead a ‘4 Castles and Corn Hill Community Walk’ in which three of the Castles and a Corn Mill will be visited, involving a walk of approximat­ely 6km of about three hours duration. There is an option to avail of a special meal in Brady’s which needs to be booked in advance – call 282 0153.

Walkers are asked to meet at Shanganagh Castle on the Bray Road at 11.30 a.m. Walkers have a choice of parking in Shanganagh Castle or at Brady’s – the walk will commence at 11.30 a.m. at Shanganagh Castle. Access to the three castles is by kind permission of the landowners. Please wear suitable footware and dress appropriat­ely for the day’s prevailing weather conditions.
