Unfortunately’ Hurricane Brian’ who followed shortly on the heels of ‘Hurricane Ophelia’ meant that the WDSL ordered a blanket closure of all schoolboy/girls games last weekend. Though we didn’t experience the winds that other parts of the country suffered we did however have our ‘fair sup’ of rain. Hopefully the weather doesn’t deteriate further in the coming week and we can get the teams back in action. The Development Squad did go ahead indoors. There will be no DS this coming weekend as it is a long weekend and the community centre is booked up with the hosting of the National Feis competitions on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The following are the fixtures for the weekending Saturday/ Sunday, October 28/29: under-eights – No Fixture; under-nines – No Fixture; under-10s away to St Patrick’s ko Sunday to be confirmed; under-11s – Academy Blitz in East Glendalough school at 1.30 p.m. Sunday; under-12s away to Greystones C ko to be confirmed – (WDSL under-12/13 Challenge Cup); under-14s – Fixture to be confirmed (Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)

Our first Last Man Standing competition gets under way this coming weekend (October 28 to October 30). The cost is €10 per player and the Prize Pot will be 50% of all money that are taken in. All selections for week one need to be with the secretary at 087 6987653 orhughienolan@ gmail.comon or before 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 26. If you require further details on the competition please contact the secretary. Please support as all money raised goes towards the youth of the area.

The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league are running a fundraiser ‘The Kube’ on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown. It is hoped every club will enter at least one participant to take on the Kube. The entry fee is €300 per participant, which each club must pay themselves or can, get sponsored. Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member. As yet the club haven’t decided who will take on the Kube on behalf of the club but we have a couple of interested parties. Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does. We had intended to have one player but we can officially announce that two coaches from the club Stephen Nolan and John Dunleavy will be representing the club on the night (no pressure lads). The lads have been very active in collecting sponsorship in the past month so please support the lads as they raise some much-needed funds for the club.

We have two players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Jake O’Brien-Fitzsimons from the Development Squad and Darren Fisher from the under-10s. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC For further information on all matters Newtown Juniors FC please contact the secretary at 087 6987653 or by email tohughienolan@gmail.com and you can also follow the club on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
