GOLF SOCIETY

Jacobs Well Golf Society played its final ‘social’ competitiv­e outing of the season on Saturday, October 14, in overcast but dry weather conditions at Coolatin Golf Club. The course was in excellent condition the 15 members enjoyed a good days’ scramble. The winners of the social competitio­n on the day were Anthony Doyle, John Cullen and Cormac Redmond.

Later that evening the members gathered in Jacobs Well for the annual prize giving dinner. Captain Artie Byrne thanked Caroline Browne for facilitati­ng the event at Coolatin where our members were made very welcome as always. As usual the event was well supported and the members enjoyed an excellent meal and hospitalit­y provided by Noel and Helen Jacob and their very pleasant staff.

Following the dinner, the prizes were then presented by chairman Mick Leonard and Captain Artie Byrne. Most members won a prize on the evening but the main prizes went to Anthony Doyle, who won the Par three competitio­n, and was also a member of the trio who won ‘Team of the year’ competitio­n. Seán Carroll and Declan Sargent were the other two members of that team. The ‘Player of the year’ was Seán Carroll, who won the accolade in his first year as a member of the society.

The AGM will be held at 8 p.m. on October 23 at Jacobs Well to elect a new committee for 2018 and following which course bookings for next season will be made and advised to members.

Finally, the society would like to thank Noel and Helen Jacob and all their staff at Jacobs Well for their support and help during the season which is greatly appreciate­d by the members.

HAZARDOUS WASTE

The household hazardous waste collection will take place at the Avoca Recycling Centre on Saturday, October 28, from 9.30 to 1 p.m (only). Bring along your old paints, solvents, pesticides, adhesives, caustic sodas, drain cleaners, detergents, oven cleaners, inks, resins etc. NOTE.

Come early – when the truck is full it will leave the site. For more info phone Mylie at 087 2288132.

BLOOD DONORS

A sincere thank you to all the donors who attended the blood donation clinic in the RDA hall last week. The giving of blood is the gift of life and the most generous gift that can be given.

BINGO

Bingo will be held as usual this Friday evening in the RDA hall commencing at 9.30 p.m. Excellent prizes can be won each week.

VINTAGE RUN

There will be a vintage and Classic Tactors and Cars Run and cake in Woolmingto­n’ Farm Rockstown, Rathdrum, in aid of St Catherine’s Special Needs School on this Sunday, October 29, starting at midday. Ffor more details contact 087 2535361. We’re looking forward to next year already.

JUVENILE HANDBALL

SALE OF WORK

After a short break the annual SALE OF WORK is back again this year in Aras An Tochar on December 3 from 12 4 p.m. All donations for the various stalls will be gratefully accepted and can be left with Maureen in the parish office between 9.30 and 1 p.m.

CEILI DANCING LESSONS

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning badminton is back in full swing from 9.30 a.m. – beginners always welcome. Some rackets are available.

CANDLE LIGHT WALK

A family fun Halloween Candle light walk will take place on Sunday, October 29, at 5.30 p.m. Registrati­on and Start from Roundwood AFC Clubhouse. Refreshmen­ts available, fancy dress essential, €10 per family. This promises to be a fun event so do come along.

MATHS LESSONS

Rebecca Delamere will be running maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall. Classes will be available for first to sixth year students and are designed to focus on common areas that students struggle with. Guaranteed small class sizes and places are limited. CAR BOOT BAZAAR

COMMUNITY COUNCIL AGM

Roundwood and District Community Council (RDCC) AGM will take place on Monday, November 13, at 8 p.m. in Parish Hall, Roundwood. As with all RDCC meetings, attendance is open to all people and we would welcome your attendance at the meeting.

WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour in and around Roundwood village.

IRISH MUSIC CLASSES

Learn traditiona­l Irish music and dance with an award-winning Comhaltas branch (guitar, fiddle, flute, tin whistle and grúpa ceoil). MENS SHED

Roundwood and District Men’s Shed: By the time you read this we May have gone fishing. We have been kindly invited by Brian Nally for a tuition session in fly fishing at his fish farm in Annamoe. So with the help of the long range weather forecaster­s we are planning to go fishing on a dry day so we don’t get as wet as the fish in the water. Our usual activities of gardening, woodworkin­g, repairing, storytelli­ng and tae drinking continue on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. onwards.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of 8.30 p.m. Tea served.

SET DANCING

Set dancing continues on Thursday nights in Kavanagh’s lounge with an addition of giving jive lessons at 8.15 p.m. before our weekly session at no additional cost. Music this month by Michael and Brian.

HOME PRODUCERS MARKET

Roundwood Home Producers Market is open every Sunday from midday till 5 p.m. in the Parish Centre. Come for all your fresh bread, home baking, jams etc. There will also be pictures, home crafts, plants and more. We look forward to seeing you all. New members always welcome.
