Mathletics add up to lots of fun in the school playground

-

Pupils at St Peter’s National School learned about maths in a class with a difference last week, with Mathletics 4 Schools.

Mathletics 4 Schools is a local start up business that has developed a unique educational programme combining mathematics and athletics.

The programme is based on the maths curriculum for first through to sixth class and is carried out in consultation with the teacher.

It’s been developed by a team of experienced maths and athletics coaches. There are numerous benefits but the ultimate goal is to make maths fun and interesting.

The children also get to experience numerous athletics skills including: sprinting, relays, shot put, javelin, long jump, high jump and hurdles.

Each session combines a single maths session with an athletic skill. Each begins with a brief introduction and topic centred warm up and ends with an appropriate cool town. The children might do place values and shot put, money and javelin, division and hurdles, measurement and long jump and other combinations.
