Christmas cards/calendars to aid animal charity

FESTIVE ITEMS WILL HELP FUND WICKLOW ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP

- BY MYLES BUCHANAN

Wicklow Animal Welfare has unveiled a wonderful selection of Christmas cards and calendars designed especially for the charity by four of its supporters.

Founded by Fiona Gammell in 2006, the Ballinaclash-based group rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes over 300 dogs every year. All the dogs are vaccinated, treated for worms and fleas, micro-chipped and neutered before being found a new home, as well as being passported if travelling out of the jurisdiction, as required by law.

‘All of these veterinary procedures put a huge strain on our resources and one of our important fundraising activities is our Christmas card and calendar sales,’ said Fiona.

‘Fortunately we are lucky to have some wonderful supporters in the county and two of them have designed the cards for us. Hilary Fitzgerald and Barbara O’Reilly designed our exclusive range of cards, while Gill Brady and Tracey Barlow designed and produced the calendars.

‘We are very grateful for their support. We would not be able to continue without the backing of our loyal supporters and adopters.’

The Christmas cards and calendars are available to buy at Brayvet, Petcare Vets of Greystones, Kilcoole Vets, Avondale Vets of Rathdrum in Arklow and Rathdrum and at Blooming Plants in Wicklow town.

‘All the money raised goes straight to helping animals in distress. We receive no state funding and rely completely on donations from the public to continue our work.

‘We will also be attending a number of craft fairs around the county in the run-up to Christmas where we will have cards and calendars for sale, along with handmade wreaths, homemade jam and lots, lots more.

‘If there are any other outlets that could give us some counter room then we would be very grateful,’ said Fiona.

Cards and calendars can also be ordered by visiting Wicklow Animal Welfare’s Facebook page. Anyone willing to take a collection box from the charity, sell their cards and calendars or to help out in any way can contact Fiona on (087) 9680583.
