MOTORIST CAN AVOID PENALTY POINTS

-

A County Wexford motorist can avoid having penalty points put on his licence for driving without tax after he explained the exceptional circumstances behind the offence at Arklow District Court last Wednesday.

Aaron Neary, 3 Brick Park, Gorey, pleaded guilty to having no tax when he was stopped on April 8 at Ballyraine, Arklow.

It was explained to the court that Mr Neary worked in the motor-trade and had taken a vehicle from his place of employment out for a drive under the mistaken belief that it was fully insured and taxed.

It turned out that the vehicle’s insurance was in order, but not its tax.

Judge David Kennedy said he wouldn’t impose any penalty points on Mr Neary’s licence on the condition he contribute €150 to the court poor box.
