LFA Junior Cup third round
CARNEW AFC suffered the heartache of a sudden death penalty shoot-out defeat after a thrilling LFA Junior Cup third round tie against FC Transylvania on Sunday.
Cillian Gilligan fired Carnew in front but the Leinster Senior League outfit took control and stormed into a 4-1 advantage.
However, Carnew, who were unbeaten in all competitions going into the game, are made of stern stuff and recovered to level at 4-4, with Adam Doyle and Will O’Neill hitting the back of the net, and Gilligan adding his second.
FC Transylvania then got their noses back in front, but a PJ O’Keeffe goal forced extra-time.
Unfortunately for Carnew the visitors prevailed 5-4 on penalties.
