The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The Book Club will meet next Tuesday night at 8 p.m. The book members are reading for this meeting is ‘In Order to Live’ by Yeonmi Park. The Book Club will not meet in December.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month forparents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

The Rosary: Please join us at 2.45 p.m. in the church every Monday to Friday during November to pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls.

Wednesday Prayer Meetings: Continue each Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room four of St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Male Voice Choir: Rehearsals for our Parish Male Voice Choir take place every Thursday at 11 a.m. There will be tea or coffee available in St Anne’s Resource Centre from 10.30 a.m.

(SAGE) Shankill Action for a Greener Environmen­t: Last Sunday morning our parish received the Eco-Congregati­on Green Flag Award, at the 10.30 a.m. Mass. It was presented by Sr. Catherine Brennan with the response given by Justin Kilcullen (SAGE). Next Monday SAGE will hold a public meeting at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre – all welcome.

First Friday: On Friday, December 1, the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

Parish Advent Retreat: Takes place on Sunday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre with Talks, Reconcilia­tion, concluding with Mass at 6 p.m. For details of the Retreat Programme, please see the notice board at the back of the church. Calling Transition Year Students: Your help and assistance is needed to organise the senior citizens’ Christmas party in St Anne’s National School on Friday, December 8, Please leave your name and contact details into St Anne’s Resource Centre if you would be happy to help out.

Christmas Fair 2017: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 3, from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre and is the main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. Fair co-ordinators Pat Maguire and Martin Walsh thank parishione­rs very much for the great response to the appeal for ticket sellers. We still need more as there are a number of areas where we need volunteers. Please contact Martin or Pat if you can help in any way. Please continue to bring Bottles; spirits, wine etc; New or unwanted gifts sets e.g. perfumes, jewellery etc; Items for our hampers; Toys; Items for the wheel of fortune. We regret that we cannot accept brica-brac items due to lack of space and health and safety concerns. Christmas Raffle Tickets may be purchased from the parish office during office hours.

Annual Appeal for Second-Hand Clothing: The society of St Vincent de Paul is seeking your help with their annual appeal for good clean second-hand clothing. The bags were distribute­d last Saturday and Sunday. Collection of the bags will take place at the 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass this Saturday and at all Morning Masses on Sunday.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. November Film Night: Takes place this Saturday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre at which the film being screened will be Charles Dicken’s ‘ Scrooge’ starring Alastair Sim, a timeless classic of British cinema+ Added Attraction: ‘Christmas in Vienna’ starring José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Diana Ross. All welcome – admission free.

Youth 2000: The next meeting takes place this coming Monday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds to join Fr Jamie for a time of adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship. The meeting will be followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

BOOK SALE

The December First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre will take place on Saturday, December 2, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the Christmas and New Year.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mon- days and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – open this Friday but closed on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

It was with great regret and sadness that members of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, learned of the death of long-time member and stalwart of the society, Hazel Smyth, aged 102.

Her funeral took place last Monday week at Mount Jerome. Cormac Lowth will be the guest speaker for the Society’s 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, meeting in Rathmichae­l School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at which he will present his lecture ‘Richard Bridges Beech – Marine Artist and his Connection­s with Dún Laoghaire’.

Before the December lecture takes place, events coming up which may be of interest to Rathmichae­l Historical Society members are this Saturdays 2017 Dublin City Library Local History Day from 9 a.m. to 2.15 p.m. in Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – admission free. This event showcases some of the excellent work being done by historians on the civic, social, and political history of Dublin. The esteemed speakers include James Scannell on ‘The 1867 Bray Head Train Derailment’, Liz Gillis on ‘The Rebel Liberties’, Frank Whearity on ‘Tom Ashe’, John Dorney on ‘The Civil War in Dublin, and Liam O’Meara on’ The history of Keogh Square’.

The 2018 Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Society Group Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, in the Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – details of the programme will be issued in due course. Those wishing to join the Rathmichae­l Historical Society can do so at the December 6 meeting.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Paddy O’Brien, Hon. President of our club. Paddy had a long involvemen­t with the GAA in Shankill stretching back to 1976. He will be missed by all at the club. To Marie and family we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar dheis De go raibh a hAnam.

The Academy is back in our winter location at St Laurence’s College. Catering for both boys and girls from four to six years of age our Academy is in action every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Help Shankill Tidy Towns keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. We also need people to do litter picking in their own area. ST PATRICK’S CHURCH

St Patrick’s Church is approachin­g its 120th Anniversar­y. However, the church remains closed for the last year as the HSE has deemed it unsafe, due to health and safety issues. All the electrical circuits in the church need to be re-wired.

The Hospital Chaplain, Marianne Quinn is appealing to local businesses and parishione­rs for donations so that repair work can commence on this beautiful church on such a historical site. If you can help, please contact Marianne Quinn,

LOG ON AND LEARN

Log On and Learn is a programme where a participat­ing Transition Year student ‘buddy’s up’ with a person from their local community to share their computer skills with them. Lessons take place in the school on Fridays from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Holy Child Killiney are now taking names for the next Log-on and Learn course, which will begin this Friday.
