LET THERE BE LIGHTS! BIG SWITCH-ON IN BRAY AND GREYSTONES

- By MARY FOGARTY

SANTA proved his athletic prowess on Saturday in Bray when he abseiled down the civic offices to greet the town’s children.

His sleigh landed on the roof of the building, and he made his way down a rope to greet the large crowd of excited fans.

It was Isabel Gilmore-Mravinac who won the honour of turning on the Christmas lights this year, and she did a great job.

The children were entered into a draw and a name picked out to see who would get to help Santa with the important job.

MC Declan Meehan welcomed the boys and girls and their families to the civic plaza for the festive ceremony.

There was a Christmas DJ, and performances by 5th class boys from St Cronan’s as well as Bray Gospel Choir.

Some ‘snow’ even fell for the hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the start of the festive season.

President of Bray and District Chamber of Commerce Pat O’Suilleabhain said that the Christmas Lights Festival ‘is at the heart of the amazing town centre experience in Bray during the festive season.’

He said that the chamber, with the support of Bray Munciipal District, has for many years undertaken to ensure that the lights are delivered and run for the benefit of all who trade, shop and live in Bray.

Now that he has arrived, Santa will soon be taking up residence in the Town Hall for the season.

He will be there on Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13, and 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets are €15 and available at bray.ie. On Saturday, December 12, Santa’s post box will be open. Drop in your letter to the post box at the Town Hall to make sure it gets to the North Pole in time.
