Human rights at Glencree

A project to increase knowledge of human rights and equality legislation will be delivered at Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission has announced that Glencree will be awarded funding for work focused on human rights and equality under its grants scheme. In total 32 grant awards have been announced by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and include support for research, education and training on human rights and equality, activities for promoting the integration of migrants and other minorities, equality including gender equality, and respect for diversity and cultural difference.

The Commission welcomed over 150 applications for the awards. The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is an independent public body, appointed by the President and directly accountable to the Oireachtas. The Commission has a statutory remit set out under the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act (2014) to protect and promote human rights and equality in Ireland, and build a culture of respect for human rights, equality and intercultural understanding in the State. The themes they focused on in awarding the grants included inter-cultural understanding and diversity, and implementation of the public sector equality and human rights duty.
