Artist to document Greystones finest
LEADING portrait artist Tom Byrne has been commissioned in conjunction with Iarnrod Eireann and Greystones Tidy Towns to paint 18 portraits which will hang permanently on the platform walls of Greystones Station documenting the history of local celebrities, poets and intellectuals.
The commission comes as a robust campaign is launched to stop the leasing of the train station in Greystones.
Tom has exhibited world-wide and his works have been collected by the likes of Gerald Kean, Louis Walsh and Sinead O’Connor.
He set up a portrait gallery three years ago on Main Street, Greystones. In the past he has been commissioned by the late Seamus Heaney and Oscar Wilde’s grandson.
The multiple-award-winning artist has a number of large scale commissions under his belt already, including a picture history of Inchicore, of the Liffey and its bridges and his highly-praised show for the 1916 Centenary.
Recently Tom won the Global Artists Guide Award for his portrait of Ronnie Drew, one of the paintings which will be on display on the platform walls.
All the portraits will be printed oils on large a large scale 100X150cm format and will include a biography of each featured person which will provide a location where each featured person lived in Greystones.
Tom also has an upcoming show in his gallery taking place on December 14 and is also available for private omissions.
