GLORY BE GLENEALY!
Wicklow champs go in search of Leinster club final joy
WHEN you strip it all back, Saturday’s Leinster Intermediate club hurling championship final between Glenealy and St Patrick’s of Ballyragget is just 15 hurlers against 15 hurlers, club against club, parish against parish.
Talk will be heard of Kilkenny, hurling royalty, pedigree, Kevin Kelly and on and on and yet when it comes down to it, as Glenealy captain Danny Staunton said, “every man has a job to do”. Do it well and the rest will hopefully take care of itself.
Glenealy manager Gary Laffan says that his players are really looking forward to the game in Nowlan Park.
“From talking to the players I think they’re just looking forward to it at this stage. I think they realise it’s not an opportunity they’ll get every year and I think they’re focused on putting in a performance,” he said.
Glenealy won’t be given much of a chance against the Kilkenny opposition but Laffan says he needs to focus on his own team.
“They seem to be strong all over, they’re putting up big scores. They’ve three or four very strong forwards. They’re half back line are supposed to be physically strong, they’re midfielders are supposed to be mobile. I’m trying to focus on our team now and get a performance out of our lads and see where it takes us. I’m trying to focus on our team now and get a performance out of our lads and see where it takes us.
“If we get a good performance it will take a very good team to beat us,” he added.
Throw in for the Leinster Intermediate club final is at 2pm on Saturday in Nowlan Park.
