NEWTOWN

Both the Senior and juvenile award ceremonies took place on Saturday last. The first to kick off were the juniors who packed out the community centre for the afternoon to celebrate the underage achievemen­ts over the past year.

Newtown’s juvenile achievemen­ts included an under-12 girls league, an under-13 boys shield, Under-14 girls ‘A’ shield and an under-16 girls league. Go Games medals were also awarded to our under-7s and under-9s as well as medals to our under-8 and under-10 girls.

Winners of most dedicated awards were, Under-11: Jack Daly, Under-13: Sean Bishop, Under-12 girls: Alicia Farrell, Under-14 girls: Yasmin Phipps O’Connor.

Juvenile player of the year awards went to, Under-11: Hannah Martin, Under-13: Shane Synnott, Under-12 girls: Grace Murphy, Under-14 girls: Laura Murphy, Under-16 girls: Lucy Rooney.

The under-16 girls also picked Ava McGlynn as the players player of the year, Ava was also presented with her All Ireland blitz medal which she won with the Wicklow under-17 developmen­t squad earlier in the year.

Peter Heffernan was a popular winner of the club person of the year; an award he richly deserves.

Our juvenile AGM will bring the curtain down on the past year and it is on Wednesday, November 29, at 7.30pm in the clubhouse and everybody is invited along to review the past season and plan ahead for the next.

Thanks to all who helped out on the day from presenting medals to cleaning up afterwards.

Many thanks also to be Mario’s, Eugene’s, and O’Kelly’s of Bray, Ruairi Martin, Gar Doyle and our hard working juvenile committee for a well-run event.

Next came the turn of the Seniors who packed out the The Druids Well pub Saturday evening where great craic was had by all to finish out the season.

Ross Davis was a clear winner and had a clean sweep taking away awards for under-23 player of the year and Senior player of the year. Congrats Ross, well deserved. Congratula­tions also to Conor Odlum who won Minor player of the year. Many thanks to the Druids Well pub.

Christmas will soon be upon us so if you want to buy Newtown GAA merchandis­e get your order in early as there are always delays around the festive time. We will be placing a large order within the next week.

Our Senior AGM is on Wednesday, December 6, at 7.30pm in the clubhouse and anybody with the interest of Newtown GAA at heart should attend.

Tickets for the national draw are now available and as usual all money raised by the club goes to the club so if you’d like to buy or maybe even sell a few tickets please get in touch with any committee member.

Tickets are great value at only €10 each and would be a great Christmas present to either give or receive.

SHILLELAGH

A huge thanks to Jane, Sean, and Eugene from Kenny Central/Parkview House for their generous contributi­on to the purchase of training and half zip tops for the adult team, much appreciate­d.

The combinatio­n drawn in the club lotto draw on Monday, November 13, was 3, 8, 13, and 24. There was no jackpot winner. Tara Warner (Shillelagh Manor) alone matched three numbers and won €100.

The next draw with the jackpot at €1,400 was scheduled for Monday last, November 27, results will be available in all local business outlets and on the club face book page on Tuesday morning, we appreciate the continued support of the people of the community and surroundin­g areas.

The Annual General Meeting of Shillelagh G.A.A Club will take place in Kenny’s Central House Lounge on Sunday, December 10, at 3pm sharp. All players, members, and supporters are welcome to attend. New members welcome, we would appeal to former players and new members of the community to come along and get involved, even if only to keep a watching brief, looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Shillelagh Courthouse will host a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday next, December 2, running from 3 to 8 pm.

The proceeds will be in aid of Wicklow Animal Welfare and Shillelagh Christmas Lights, both very deserving causes.

Children in attendance can post their letters to Santa free of charge and see the good man himself in person.

Stalls will include flowers, vegetables, cakes, bread, knitwear, books, jewellery, antiques, bric a brac and many more, their will be a raffle for a trailer load of logs, carol singers from 5 to 6pm and for those feeling peckish teas, coffee, and light refreshmen­ts will be available.

JUVENILE CLUB - The annual juvenile presentati­on night held in Parkview House on Sunday, November 19, brought the curtain down on another successful and activity laden season.

Medals were presented to a very enthusiast­ic Go Games squad and to the under-11 panel.

Thanks to the children and parents for their attendance and to Eugene Kenny and staff for their help and co-operation.

The under-13 St. Mary’s panel (the Shillelagh/Coolkenno combinatio­n) will be rewarded for their efforts and commitment during the season with a panel day out on Sunday next, December 3. Contact juvenile Chairman Paul Behan at 087 7405359 for further details.

The Annual John F Kenny Memorial juvenile tournament was held on the Fairgreen recently, Wexford’s Kilanerin were successful in both the under-10 and under-12 finals.

Well done to our own boys and girls who gave their all in both finals and to the Kilanerin club for their attendance and co-operation.

Thanks also to the Kenny family for their continued sponsorshi­p of the tournament.

Date for your diary - The Juvenile Club Annual General Meeting will take place in Kenny’s Central House Lounge on Sunday, December 10, at 5 pm sharp.

It would be encouragin­g to see plenty of parents and members of the adult club plus anyone willing to help out with coaching etc. in attendance, as usual a full and detailed account of finances and activities in 2017 will be presented, all are welcome to attend.

ST PATRICK’S

Congratula­tions to our under-16 girls Lucy Dunne, Niamh Caffrey, Jess Lyons, Naoise O’Reilly, Siobhan Gorman and Zoe Armstrong who were selected to represent County Wicklow at under-16 level for 2018.

Hard luck to our neighbours and Wicklow champions Rathnew who bowed out of the Leinster championsh­ip in their semi-final with Moorefield in Aughrim. It finished 2-13 to 2-07. Well done to Rathnew who created a little buzz of excitement and belief in Wicklow football again.

Well done to our own Eddie Leonard who did an excellent job on his first live broadcast for East Coast FM commentati­ng on Sunday’s Leinster championsh­ip semi-final in Aughrim between Rathnew and Moorefield.

We wish our neighbours and Wicklow county champions Glenealy all the best in the Leinster hurling final next Sunday when they take on the Kilkenny champions St. Patrick’s Ballyragge­t.

St Patrick’s Juvenile AGM took place on Monday, November 20, at 8pm in the clubhouse.

Alan Lawlor chaired the meeting with Brian Gleeson giving an excellent report on the juvenile activities within the club in the last year. Congratula­tions to Alan, Brian, Paddy, Brian and Paul who all retained their positions on the Juvenile committee.

St Patrick’s ladies held their AGM on Thursday, November 23, at 8pm in the clubhouse.

A good attendance on the night saw a new committee elected. Thank you to Caroline Courtney, Stephen McNulty, Nicola McGettigan and Katherine Fox for all their efforts over the last number of years.

On the night the following positions were filled: Secretary Tara O’Gorman, Treasurer Mary Phelan, Registrar Peggy King with Sarah Delahunt. Ami Healy will be assisting with Club PRO.

St Patrick’s ladies juvenile presentati­on took place on Saturday, November 25, in the clubhouse at noon to allow families to part take in the festive activities taking place in the town, specifical­ly the switching on of the Christmas Lights in the afternoon.

Internatio­nal athlete Erinn O’Brien with club captain Sarah Delahunt made the presentati­ons to all who attended. Thank you to all who volunteere­d to decorate the hall and assist in the smooth running of the event.

Please note every Wednesday from 7-9pm the GCA County under-15s train in the gym until Christmas.

St. Patrick’s GAA Club needs volunteers. Due to the retirement of John Smith and Patrice Evans from their roles in club communicat­ion we are looking for the right candidates to take over, ideally you require knowledge of social media. Training can be provided if you can spare a few hours a week and have an interest in St Patrick’s GAA?

Wicklow GAA are running a Football Foundation Coaching Course in Glenart College Arklow on Saturday, December 2 and 9. The course will run from 10.00am to 2.30pm on both days. Coaches must attend both days to complete the course. Please contact Garrett Doyle Wicklow GAA if interested.

St Patricks GAA Club AGM on Thursday, November 30, at 8pm in the clubhouse

St Patrick’s GAA Club Draw 2017: The second draw will take place in the Clubhouse on Thursday, November 30, after the AGM.

The St Patricks GAA Developmen­t first Draw Winners: Tomas Morrissey €1,000, Paddy Heffernan €700, Derek Dunne €400, Dennis O’Mahony €200, Fiona/ Donal Mitchel €100, Brian Murray €50, Carmel Tiernan €50.

This year the club is running a draw to support the fundraisin­g drive required to develop a new pitch at our new Greenhill Road field. Tickets are €50 each and there will be a monthly draw at the end of October, November and early December.

TINAHELY

Lotto results from November 20. Numbers drawn were: 10, 18, 25 and 26. The bonus number was 17. There was no jackpot winner.

Three lucky punters matched three numbers. They were Ray McGlynn, Pawel Dziurohia and Peter Mordaunt.

Next week’s jackpot is €5,200 and the draw will take place in Maggies Bar.

Tinahely ladies will hold their AGM on Wednesday, December 6, at 8pm in the clubhouse. Everyone welcome.

Senior Football - Our Senior team were out in the last game of the Keating Trophy on Saturday, October 28, against Bray Emmets. A win here and nothing else was what we needed to keep our senior status.

Unfortunat­ely, we only produced a 1-8 apiece draw. So Tinahely head back to intermedia­te football for 2018. A sad day for the club but no doubt they can bounce back.

We have been lucky to stay Senior since 2005 and our day will come again. Thanks to the men in charge for the year David Dillon, Pauric Murphy, Colman O’Byrne and trainer John Smith. To the players, ye will be back in no time again.

ENNISKERRY

AGM: Thanks to all who attended the AGM on Friday, there was not much change to the current officer positions.

Thanks to the current committee for their work throughout the year and to all officials who stayed in their roles, best of luck to the 2018 season.

Helen Kirwan and Jack Conroy took up the two new officer roles for the coming season; Helen looking after the Insurance role and Jack looking after the Community & Health officer role.

Awards Night: Reminder that the senior awards night is this Friday at 7.30pm with the awards kicking off at 7.45pm, with a number of under-18s playing Senior football this year we would ask people to arrive on time to ensure we can get through the awards in good time and the players can then leave with their parents.

All welcome with live music and finger food on the night. Thanks to our sponsors, The Powerscour­t Arms.

BRAY EMMETS

Lotto: The numbers drawn were: 24, 12, 2, and 16. The next jackpot will be: €20,000.

Club Person of The Year 2017 - Michael and Grainne Roddy jointly received the Club Person of the Year for 2017 on Saturday whilst serving out 300 hot dogs for some of our juvenile teams.

Both Michael and Grainne give so much to the club and are very worthy of this award. From running coffee mornings, cake sales, helping out at discos and looking after two juvenile teams they both give up so much time and always do it with a smile. The club are so lucky to have volunteers like these and could not run so well without them thank you so much and congratula­tions from all at Bray Emmets.

Bray Emmets Christmas shopping - The Club Shop is open on Saturday, December 2 and 9 from 10am and Tuesday, December 12 from 7 to 8pm.

Christmas Music Quiz - The Christmas Music Quiz takes place on Friday, December 8, in the club house at 8pm. Team of four costs €40. All welcome.

Larry Walsh Cup and Games Day - Well done to all who took part and organised the Larry Walsh Cup and Games Day on Saturday 25th.

AGM - Many thanks to all those who attended the lively AGM on Friday, November 24. Thank you to the outgoing club officials and best of luck to the new executive. The AGM report, new offciers’ list and motions passed will be circulated shortly.
