Senior citizens events

The Kilmacanogue Senior Citzens Committee will host their annual Christmas Fair in the Parish Hall this Sunday (third) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Home baking and unwanted new gifts can be given to any committee member before the fair which would be greatly appreciated.

Later that day, the annual Senior Citzens Christmas party will be held in the Summerhill Hotel in Enniskerry from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 3.

History Society lecture

The final lecture for the 2017 Kilmacanogue History Society will take place on Tuesday, December 5, in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m. Rob Goodbody will present his illustrated talk on ‘The Bridges of Wicklow’ and it promises to be a most interesting lecture.

A reminder that the Society’s AGM will take place on Tuesday, December 12, in the Glenview Hotel at eight.pm. All members are invited to attend.

The committee would like to thank all their members and visitors for their loyal support during the past year.

A special word of thanks comes from chairman Tommy O’Rourke for the hard working committee and the management and staff of the Glenview Hotel. They have a very exciting programme of lectures lined up for 2018 and look forward to your continued support.

Good Luck James

Many will recall James Cahill attending our National School and playing both Soccer and Gaelic Football for our juvenile teams.

Well now 19-year-old James has switched codes and is a very prominent boxer. He will have his second professional fight this Saturday (second) in the National Stadium on the ‘Celtic Clash 4’ bill.

While we all see the glamour of the ‘Pay for View’ box office fights, the road to fame starting off is a far greater challenge and boxers must help sell tickets for their event. If you went to school and knew James, perhaps you might help him out by purchasing an adult ticket at €30, €40, €60 or ringside €100 with a child under-15 only costing €15 and you can book these by either phoning James at 083 8107064 or at Ticketmaster.ie.

Christmas Market

The now annual outdoor Christmas market will once again take place on December 9 in Plucks Carpark. The fair will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and to book a stall, please contact Kathleen Tighe at or phone 089 4067564 for your application form. Santa will also take time out from his busy schedule for a visit.

The organising team have very kindly offered the money raised from Stall Holders will go to Glencormac United Football Club this year. The club caters for almost 100 kids now ranging from the Academy to under-14s and a senior team and this gesture is very much appreciated by all at the club.

Vintage club market

The garden of Ireland Vintage Club are also hosting a Christmas Market and this will take place at the Grove Bar in the Willow Grove on Sunday, December 10, between 12 and 5 p.m. There will be numerous stalls selling Christmas Trees for sale, Gift Sets, Christmas Plants, Wreaths, crafts, Novelty Items, Face Painting, local choirs and a visit from Santa. All the proceeds will go towards the Kilmacanogue Cardiac First Responders Group.

Christmas draw

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Glencormac United FC Christmas Draw. The club have run this 500/1 Draw for the past few years and it is the main source of income to cover the yearly cost of running the club and always receives great support from the community. Tickets are €20 and you can win a first prize of €2,000, second is €1,000, third is €500 and there are five prizes of €100. The draw will take place at the social night this Saturday (second) in Plucks and this is always a great night so please try attend with the music provided by ‘Take it Easy’.

Plucks Golf Society AGM

Following on from a great 2017 campaign, the 2018 season is fast approaching as Paddy ‘Wacks’ Byrne prepares to come in as Captain. However, there is the important matter of the Societies AGM and that will take place on Friday, December 15, upstairs in Plucks at.

Soccer action

The under-eights travelled to Wicklow on a very cold Sunday morning and out the four games they played, they won two and drew two. It was a special day also for Ruby Devlin, who got her first goal for the glens and well done to her and all her teammates on a great display.

The under-11s faced a strong Arklow United side on Saturday morning in Ryders Field and were beaten 6-4. It was a tough day on poor Aishling Meehan, who scored all four goals and still finished up on the losing team but well done to all the team on a great effort.

The under-14s warmed up for their second leg Cup semi-final v Greystones United with a friendly v Wicklow Rovers B on Sunday morning with a 3-2 win. Dean Bradshaw, Adam Dutton and Dylan Henry got the goals and it is hoped they can carry in this form into this Sundays semi-final as they attempt to overturn a 1-2 deficit.

The seniors had no game last weekend but will face Ashford Rovers at home this Sunday in the first Round of the Wicklow Cup.
