The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: Last night (Tuesday night) Lesley Wallace hosted the

November meeting at which the book for review and discussion was ‘In Order to Live’ by Yeonmi Park. The Book Club will not meet in December.

The Thursday Group: Last Thursday week George and Verna Knaggs hosted the November coffee morning of the group.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25.

The Rosary: Please join us at 2.45 p.m. in the church every Monday to Friday during Novem- ber to pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls.

Wednesday Prayer Meetings: Continue each Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room four of St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Male Voice Choir: Rehearsals for our Parish Male Voice Choir take place every Thursday at.

11 a.m. There will be tea or coffee available in St Anne’s Resource Centre from 10.30 a.m.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday of December and the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

The Life of Jesus: Join Fr Jaimie in St Anne’s Resource Centre every Wednesday morning up till Christmas after 10 a.m. Mass to read and reflect on the mystical writings of Maria Valtorta concerning the life of Jesus in her book ‘The Poem of the Man – God’.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Drop In Centre this Friday at 10.30 a.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Parish Children’s Nativity Play: Rehearsals will take place this Sunday and Sunday, December 10, after the 10.30 a.m. Mass. The Nativity Play will take place during the Family Mass on Christmas Eve.

St Vincent de Paul Society: The members of the Parish Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society wish to thank all those who contribute­d to the recent church gate collection. The amount raised was €2,425.

Parish Advent Retreat: Takes place on Sunday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre with Talks, Reconcilia­tion, concluding with Mass at 6 p.m. For details of the Retreat Programme, please see the notice board at the back of the church. Calling Transition Year Students: Your help and assistance is needed to organise the senior citizens’ Christmas party in St Anne’s National School on Friday, December 8, Please leave your name and contact details into St Anne’s Resource Centre if you would be happy to help out.

This Sundays Christmas Fair: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place this Sunday, December 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre and is the main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. Fair co-ordinators Pat Maguire and Martin Walsh thank parishione­rs very much for the great response to the appeal for ticket sellers.

We still need more as there are a number of areas where we need volunteers. Please contact Martin or Pat if you can help in any way. Please continue to bring Bottles; spirits, wine etc; New or unwanted gifts sets e.g. perfumes, jewellery etc.

Items for our hampers; Toys; Items for the wheel of fortune. We regret that we cannot accept brica-brac items due to lack of space and health and safety concerns. Christmas Raffle tickets may be purchased from the parish office during office hours. This week we are appealing especially to our bakers for cakes which can be left into St Anne’s Resource Centre on Saturday between 3p0m and 5 p.m. and on Sunday morning from 9.30 a.m.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Crosscare: Archbishop Diarmuid Martin is seeking support for a Parish Food Appeal to support the Crosscare Foodbanks. Crosscare work with many individual­s and families throughout the Archdioces­e, who are struggling to make ends meet. This year the collection will take place on Saturday, December 9, and Sunday, December 10, This will allow Crosscare to distribute hampers in good time for Christmas to hundreds of families. The following items are most needed at this time – Shampoo and Hygiene Products; Soups; Tinned meats; Seasonal Biscuits; Cleaning Products.

BOOK SALE

This Saturday the December First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre, takes place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the Christmas and New Year. Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – closed this Friday but open on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Cormac Lowth will be the guest speaker for the Society’s 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, meeting in Rathmichae­l School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at which he will present his lecture ‘Richard Bridges Beech – Marine Artist and his Connection­s with Dún Laoghaire’.

Events coming up which may be of interest to Rathmichae­l Historical Society members are next Tuesdays 6.30 p.m. talk by James Scannell, The Old Dublin Society, recalling ‘Christmas 1917 in Kingstown and Dalkey’ in Dalkey Library, Castle Street, Dalkey – all welcome, admission free; and next night’s 8 p.m. talk by Rob Goodbody on ‘The Bridges of Wicklow’ to the Kilmacanog­ue History Society in the Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs, Delgany, Co. Wicklow – admission €4.

The 2018 Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Society Group Day which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, in the Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – details of the programme will be issued in due course. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

We extend our deepest sympathy to committee member and club coach Mike Brophy and family on the death of his father Michael. Ar dheis De go raibh a hAnam.

The Academy is back in our winter location at St Laurence’s College. Catering for both boys and girls from four to six years of age our Academy is in action every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to11 a.m. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Plenty of action recently as the under-seven and under-10 hurling teams had blitz games as also our under-11 and under-13 girls’ football teams.

Help Shankill Tidy Towns keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. We also need people to do litter picking in their own area.
