A man in his 30s died on Friday evening when struck by a train between Greystones and Bray.

The incident occurred slightly north of Greystones on the tracks.

The deceased man, a Hungarian national in his 30s, had also made his way onto the line earlier in the day.

‘Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, and our driver who will receive support and counselling following this tragedy,’ said Barry Kenny of Irish Rail.

TRAGEDY struck on Friday afternoon when a man died after he was struck by a train between Bray and Greystones.

Irish Rail suspended services following the tragedy and emergency services were called to the scene.

The deceased man was a Hungarian native in his early 30s.

In an earlier incident, the same gentleman had been on the track at the same area and it is understood that he was trying to stop trains in both directions. He left the area on that occasion but services were disrupted for a short time.

Services resumed at around lunchtime, but some time later the fatality occurred.

Both incidents occurred at the Enis Lane area, slightly north of Greystones.

‘Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, and our driver who will receive support and counselling following this tragedy,’ said Barry Kenny of Irish Rail. ‘ The Bray to Greystones line was closed for over two hours 30 minutes as a result to facilitate the emergency services.’

While the line was closed, buses were provided between Bray and Greystones and the Rosslare train operated with a bus connection at that point. Services returned to normal at approximately 6 p.m.
