Night of tales of festive traditions and customs
GET into the festive spirit with tales of Christmas traditions and customs of the past at Ashford Community and Heritage Centre.
Paul Sharkey of the Harlequin Players will be performing and intends to feature contributions from Paddy Kavanagh, John B. Keane, Brendan Kennelly, Charles Dickens and many, many more.
Paul is a regular performer in Ashford, having performed at the weekend dedicated to JM Synge in May and the 100th anniversary concert for The Most Holy Rosary Church in March.
He trained at the Brendan Smith Theatre Academy from 1975 to 1977 and then worked with a number of Dublin based drama groups, including the Dublin Shakespeare Society, playing the title role of Hamlet in 1980.
Moving to Wicklow, Paul continued to study speech and drama and, in 1981, he co-founded Harlequin Players with his wife Liz.
For ten years Harlequin Players provided entertainment and dinner theatre, including shows based on the works of Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, W.B. Yeats and James Joyce.
‘A Christmas Carol’ takes place at Ashford Community and Heritage Centre on Saturday, December 9, at 8 p.m..
Admission is €10 and mulled wine and mine pies will be served on the night.
