Garda injured in Arklow street row

A GARDA had to go to hospital at the weekend from an x-ray of his wrist and arm after being struck when dealing with a ‘mill’ at St Mary’s Road, Arklow, at around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday night.

A mix of people from youths to more mature people were involved in the row and it is understood that a baseball bat was used during the hostilitie­s. However, local gardaí were able to contain the situation. A garda spokesman confirmed that arrests were made on the night and more arrests will follow. A baseball bat was recovered by gardaí. The injured Garda had to go to Wexford General Hospital for x-rays which confirmed that he had not sustained any fractures. Seven houses, five of them at Glenart and two more close-by, were broken into last week and cash and mobile phones were stolen.
