Busy period for Arklow boxers

IT’S been a busy time for Arklow boxers with 15 of the finest in action in Drogheda at the weekend and all done their club and town proud. Some were having their very first contest. Arklow Boxing Club would like to thank Damien McKenna and Holy Family Boxing Club for their invite to such an excellent day of boxing.

Following that event there is a huge night of boxing in Arklow Boxing Club next Tuesday night. Up to 30 test matches are expected.

This is the annual Garda Siochana sponsored tournament as part of their community involvemen­t. Arklow boxers, both underage (some having their first ever contest) and more senior juveniles will take on clubs from Liberty Bray, Sacre Couer, Enniscorth­y, Na Fianna Enniscorth­y ,Enniskerry, St Ibars Wexford and Gorey Boxing clubs. Boxing starts at 6.30pm and admission is adults €5 while under 16s are free. The programme so far is as follows:

Michael Kelly (Arklow) v Tadgh McDonnell (Liberty), Jason Breen (Arklow) v Jake McMahon (Liberty), Tiernan Lockhart (Arklow) v Vialli Florea (Liberty), Jamie Doyle v Luke Murray (Liberty), Owen Moore v Daniel Keogh (Liberty), Niamh Molloy (Arklow) v Roisin Balfe (Sacre Couer), Michael Moorehouse v Nathan Brooks (Sacre Coure), Philip Feokrytova v Willie Bourke (Na Fianna), Sean Tyndall v John Connors (Na Fianna).

Arklow boxers Aidan Fleming, Claire Fleming, Jack Hudson, Aaron Mooney, Callum Roache and Ross Farrell all take on Gorey opponents.

Kian Fluskey v Sean O’Rourke (St Ibars), Damian Abiloga v Tom Murphy (St Ibars), Josh Whitmore (Arklow) v Jake Travers (St Ibars), Sean Crowley v Dean Walsh (St Ibars), Donnacha Murphy v Ben Mallon (St Ibars), Sean Byrne v Ruari O’Connor (St Ibars), Tegan Farrell (Arklow) v Abbie Doyle (Enniskerry), Luke Mulhall (Arklow) v Johnny Lynch (Enniskerry), Andrei Shapkov (Arklow) v Darren O’Toole (Enniskerry) and Matthew v Michael Moorehouse (Enniskerry).

Three of the club’s boxers, elite Fergal Redmond, Padraig Keogh and Owen Moore also travel to Kilkenny on Friday, December 15 as guests of Paulstown Boxing Club.

More good news for Arklow Boxing Club is that a date has being arranged with Santa Clause for Monday, December 18 for him to visit the club which is an annual occasion and finishes training until the first week in the New Year for the younger members.

New members wishing to join should do so the first week in January. The Santa party starts at 6.30pm.

Arklow Boxing Club’s annual five-draw draw starts on Monday, December 11. There will be €2,500 in prize money. Tickets still available at €15 each. The one ticket does all five draws. Arklow Boxing club would like to wish all our supporters sponsors and helpers a very happy Christmas.
