Home and away fun and games for Wicklow’s underage stars

-

SUNDAY morning saw Wicklow’s under-10s, 11s and 12s in action in both home and away fixtures.

The Wicklow under-11s welcomed visitors from Westmanstown RFC to Ashtown Lane.

Conditions were great for running rugby on a mild and sunny morning.

Two teams of Wicklow under-11s were in great form to take on their counterparts from Clonsilla.

Both Wicklow teams scored some fine tries in the opening games and put their training to good effect by rucking, tackling and passing well. The Westmanstown boys came back strongly as the games wore on and displayed some great passing.

The teams retired to the clubhouse for some well earned refreshments afterwards thanks to the Wicklow parents who hosted the visitors so well.

Meanwhile, Wicklow RFC’s Under 10s took on Lansdowne RFC at the Aviva (back pitch!) on Sunday.

The Wicklow lads revelled in the 4G Astro pitch and put in some great performances against a very strong and well drilled Lansdowne.

Four teams each played four games and the Wicklow lads’ confidence in their own abilities and skills shone as they executed some magical manoeuvres and scored plenty of epic tries.

Two teams of under-12s travelled to Lansdowne’s Ballycorus Grounds near Stepaside where they took on teams from Lansdowne RFC and Old Belvedere RFC.

Both opposition teams were well drilled and well coached and the result was excellent and very enjoyable rugby played by all three clubs.

The Wicklow lads flourished in the free flowing games and produced some fine scores in three very closely contested matches.

Each team played well as a unit and the players were great ambassadors for their club.

Next weekend Wicklow RFC’s minis will host visitors from New Ross and Old Belvedere. Meanwhile, on December 16, Wicklow’s minis make their annual trip to the Aviva where they will see Leinster take on Exeter in the Champions’ Cup.
