HOLY REDEEMER PARISH

Taize Evening: An open invitation to come, away to the quiet, for 30 minutes of silent reflection, at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, in Holy Redeemer Church.

Evening Mass: There will be a 7 p.m. evening Mass every day this week.

Holy Day of Obligation: This Friday is the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is a Holy Day of Obligation. There will be a Vigil Mass at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) and on Friday at 10 a.m., midday and 7 p.m.

Confirmati­on Preparatio­n Mass: This Sunday at 6 p.m. We welcome those children and their parents who are preparing for their Confirmati­on in 2018.

Carol Service: An Advent Carol Service of readings and music will take place this Sunday at 4 p.m. in the church. Music performed by the First Sunday Choir under Pat Carey, director.

Fr John Moses: Wishes to express his deepest thanks to everyone who came along for the social evening to celebrate his visit back to Holy Redeemer. He was overwhelme­d by the friendship and support he received. More news on his new parish to follow.

What Actually Happened in Bethlehem?: Would you like to look more deeply at the events in Bethlehem and reflect on what they might mean to us as adults in today’s world? Annual Special annual collection for St Vincent de Paul: Will take place this Sunday and will replace the Share Collection.

Christian Mothers: The next meeting will take place today (Wednesday) in the Parish Hall after the 11 a.m. prayer service.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Help: New system in place for Assistance. Anybody looking for help from the SVP this Christmas must do so by ringing SVP Dublin at 01 8550022. Please do not leave any Post/Letters in the post box in the parish or Bungalow as they will not be read or considered for Christmas help. Many thanks for your co-operation.

Young at Heart Dinners: Young at Heart dinners will finish on Friday, December 8, at 12.30 p.m. and will recommence in February. Date to be confirmed.

ST FERGAL’S PARISH

Feast of the Immaculate Conception: This Friday is a Holy Day of Obligation, Vigil Mass tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m., and Masses on Friday at 8 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.

Voices of Bray Community Choir: A performanc­e by the Voices of Bray Community Choir, will take place in St Fergal’s Church, this Sunday December at 7.30 p.m. Tickets: €10 From parish office. Proceeds to Bray Lions Club.

Society of St Vincent de Paul Diocesan Church Collection This Weekend; This will replace the usual Share Collection. A good response to this collection is needed more than ever this year. Thank you for your ongoing sup- port.

Parish Christmas Cards: Packs of assorted Parish Christmas Cards are available to purchase in the church after all Masses and the parish office. €4 for six cards. Those, who receive the cards will be remembered in the Christmas Masses being offered in the parish.

St Fergal’s Christmas Raffle 2017: The draw will take place in the church after the Christmas Carol Concert on Saturday, December 16, Our Lady Queen of Peace.

Celebratio­n Mass for the 70th Anniversar­y of our Parish: This Sunday at midday, there will be a special Celebratio­n of Mass to Mark the 70th Anniversar­y of our parish. On this occasion we especially want to welcome new parishione­rs who have come to join our Parish Community in recent years.

We welcome people who have come from different parts of the world, if you come from a country other than Ireland you might like to put your name and country in the book in front of the altar so that we can represent and welcome you.

After the Mass there will be refreshmen­ts in the Parish Centre. We would like as many people as possible to join with us for this special day of celebratio­n.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club had a brisk walk up Bray Head with twenty-two young members and five club leaders. Next club items will be a night walk along the Cliff Walk from Greystones to Bray, and the annual Christmas party with the presentati­on of certificat­es. The club will then close till the New Year.

During the Christmas holiday the club committee will be working on a proposed programme for next year which will be put to the members for ratificati­on.

DIVING CLUB

Congratula­tions to Cormac and Joanne on achieving their first sea snorkel dive with Bray Divers in Greystones. Leaders were Jack and Albert, and the participan­ts enjoyed, and endured a very successful session of snorkel technique training which included back, front, and side finning.

Four more snorkel dives will be required, and then they hope to start sea scuba diving. There are vacancies for new trainees on the club courses which may be tailored to suit candidates. Call 087 6756439 for more informatio­n.

CUALANN SOCIETY

Although there are no meetings of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow, in the Royal Hotel during December, tomorrow (Thursday) James Scannell will present a talk ‘ Christmas 1942 in Bray’ at 11.30 a.m. in Ballywaltr­im Library, Boghall Road, Bray. All welcome – admission free.

The following day, Friday James will present a his talk ‘Christmas 1917 in Bray’ at 11.30 a.m. in Bray Library, Eglinton Road, Bray. All welcome – admission free.

Members of the Bray Cualann Historical Society are invited and to tonight’s (Wednesday) 8 p.m. talk by Cormac Lowth to the Rathmichae­l Historical Society in Rathmichae­l School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at which he will present his lecture ‘Richard Bridges Beech – Marine Artist and his Connection­s with Dún Laoghaire’. All welcome – admission €4.

At the same time Séamus O’Connor will present an illustrate­d talk ‘A History of Old Dun Laoghaire with Slides’ to the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire – admission €4.

The 2018 Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Society Group Day will now place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in the Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – details of the programme will be issued in due course.

This Sunday the French tv channel France two will screen a 20 minute documentar­y, which the society was involved with, about Josephine Heffernan From Bray, and the braclet she lost in 1917 while serving in France as a nurse with the US Expedition­ary Force, found 15 years ago and recently returned to her descendant­s in Bray. A longer version of the documentar­y will be screened in January.

BRAY FLOWER CLUB

Bray Flower Club invite you to their Christmas Gala Demonstrat­ion by Janet Maddock in the Little Flower Hall tomorrow (Thursday) at 8 p.m. Tickets are €15 available from the Mermaid Florist, Fleurtique, and Joan at 086 2696317. All proceeds go to the Martin Codyre Trust.

BRAY CHORAL SOCIETY

Bray Choral Society are holding a Christmas Concert in the Church of the Holy Redeemer, Bray, this Saturday at 8 p.m. The theme this year is: ‘Carols from around the world.’ Tickets are €15 or €12 with concession and are available at the door on the night.
