Sinn Fein to select candidate

Wicklow Sinn Féin will select their candidate for the next general election at a convention tonight (Tuesday) in Arklow.

The event in the Arklow Bay Hotel will be attended by the party’s vice president Mary Lou McDonald.

Chairperson of Wicklow Sinn Féin Comhairle Ceantair James Charlton said that all members are invited to attend to select the county’s candidate for the election.

‘We have been on an election footing for some time now given the instability of the current Fine Gael/Fianna Fail government. The growth of Sinn Féin across Wicklow is manifest in the number of new members we have welcomed over the last couple of years, all of whom have been invited to attend the selection convention,’ he said.

Mr Charlton said that the party nationally are well advanced in the candidate selection process and that, locally, the party was delighted to welcome Deputy McDonald, who has been selected to stand in Dublin Central.

‘Mary Lou will be our guest speaker and we look forward to giving her a huge welcome in the Garden County,’ he said.
