Artistic students are honoured at awards

-

TWO Wicklow schools attended the ‘Someone Like Me’ art awards in Dublin recently.

Students from Marino Community School in Bray and Wicklow Primary Montessori School in Wicklow town were among students from 45 primary schools who attended the awards.

The competition, which is sponsored by the Department of Justice and Equality, was won by Killeevan National School from Co Monaghan. The winning entry was created by first and second class pupils, along with their teacher Ms Beagan, and comprised a book in which the pupils took one page each to illustrate their responses to various physical, emotional and societal challenges.

The competition received more than 2,000 entries ranging from posters and collages to large sculptural installations and multi-media pieces.

Now in its third year, ‘Someone Like Me’ allows children to learn about and discuss these topics and creatively express what they have learned. The competition is open to all primary school pupils from junior infants to sixth class.
