PRESENTATION TO DAVE FOR 25 YEARS OF GAA COACHING
BRAY Emmets celebrated their Ladies Senior B championship win, and the long-service of a devoted coach at the clubhouse last Friday night.
They had a music quiz covering the 60s and each decade right up to today, with something of a Christmas team. There were picture rounds, general musical knowledge, fill in the gaps and more. It was good fun and they needed tie breakers in the end to separate the two teams.
There was a presentation to the ladies who won the Senior B football championship back in September.
The team is coached by John Butler, Dave Barry (who has been with the club as a coach for 25 years) and manager Paul Hunt, who is retiring.
Dave Barry was totally caught offguard with a surprise presentation to mark his 25 years coaching the ladies. He has worked with the senior men and had other roles also.
It all started a quarter of a century ago when Dave’s friend asked him to give him a hand with the team.
He was ultimately asked to stay on, and he has done so for the past 25 years.
He was presented with a cake and a huge round of applause for his work with the team.
He intends to do so for many years to come. Dave said that coaching the team helps keep him young and he’ll keep going as long as he enjoyed it.
He said that the club is getting bigger, and ladies’ football is getting ever more popular.
‘It’s great to see the growth in the ladies’ club,’ said Dave. The Ardmore Crescent man described himself as a ‘ blow-in’, as he is a native of Bantry in West Cork. The night at Bray Emmets was great fun for everyone involved.
