WICKLOW County Council has a plan in place to deal with any severe weather conditions which may affect the county.

Speaking at last week’s meeting of Wicklow County Council engineer Michael Geany said a winter ready brochure is available around the county which covers snow, ice, flooding and other issues. He said that there is also an out of hours number which people can contact in the event of severe weather.

Mr Geany said that the council currently has 7,000 sandbags ready to go with a 2,000 tonne store of salt and a further 1,000 tonnes ready for delivery.

Chief Fire Officer Aidan Dempsey said that the fire service would be assisting the council to provide an orchestrated response in the event of severe weather.
