Local primary school pupils are queuing up for a chance to see this matinee show of the Dominican students’ production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. The Transition Year students have been working overtime in rehearsals, can’t wait for everyone to see this enchanting show and invite people from far and wide to ‘Be Our Guest’ for this re-telling of the classic tale. Tickets are available from the school office or Earls newsagents and cost €12 per adult, €6 for OAPs and students or €32 for a family of four. ANNUAL LADIES’ LUNCH Courthouse Arts Centre 12.30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Members of Tinahely Women’s Group are inviting the ladies of the local community join them for their annual three-course lunch, featuring a selection of seasonal songs and carols from the choir. Cruinniú has launched it’s sixth annual ‘Carols by Candlight’ event. Paul Sharkey will act as MC for ‘Carols by Candleligh­t: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ and, alongside the glorious voices of the Cruinniú choir, there will be performace­s by the Arklow Shipping Silver Band, accompanis­t John Bonner, Michael Flood and students of Mary Walsh. Wicklow Choral Society will sing some seasonal carols in the Dominican College Chapel. The special guest will be the vocal group Classic Harmony. Santa, his industriou­s elves and Mrs Claus have created a magical journey in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains. This enchanted train journey sets off from Winter Wonderland Station stopping to see Santa’s Runway, The Talking Trees, Candy Cane Land, Elves Village and many more incredible attraction­s along the way before going to a very special audience with Santa himself. Guests will visit Wonderland Lodge before stopping off at North Pole Post Office where they can have their letters stamped by one of Santa’s elves to ensure you get first priority this year. Tickets cost €18 for children and €12.50 for adults.

This year Santa will take up residence in a magical funfair located at Wicklow’s Historic Gaol, offering free Santa visits. Dig out those Santa hats for this 5k/10k run/walk and family fun day in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin. Santa is taking a short break from the hustle and bustle of the North Pole to visit the children of Kilcoole in his glittering white carriage and with his trusty reindeer Rudolph in tow. Surrounded by his hardworkin­g elves, Santa will be visiting all the estates and is looking forward to seeing and chatting to the local children. This moving and beautifull­y told film is a true masterpiec­e of cinema. The story finds George Bailey in turmoil, having been framed by his arch rival, torn between his own desires and aspiration­s, but struggling to always do the right thing. This inner conflict proves too much for Bailey, who sees suicide as the only option. In classic Hollywood style, Heaven sends a guardian angel to remind him how worthwhile his life has been and to treasure the good times when the going gets tough.

With their earlier dates a total sell-out, Killrudder­y are offering children one more opportunit­y to come and see Santa Claus. The visit will begin a Elf Holly’s registrati­on desk, before the children enjoy fireside story time and some singing in Ms Claus’ scullery. In the workshop, the children will make a festive craft before going to visit Santa. Tickets must be booked in advance and all children must be accompanie­d by an adult. Two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas. The real adventure starts when Crosby & Kaye discover that the inn is run by their old army general who’s now in financial trouble. And the result is the stuff dreams are made of. Family comedy starring Macaulay Culkin as ten-year-old Kevin McCalliste­r who is inadverten­tly left home alone by his family when they go on vacation. On the evening before his family leave for their Christmas break to Paris, Kevin is banished to his room for misbehavin­g. When he wakes the following morning he discovers he is alone in an empty house. Kevin must cope not only with life on his own but also with the threat of two persistent, albeit incompeten­t, burglars Marv and Harry.

Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, a human raised in the North Pole to be an elf. After wreaking havoc in the elf community due to his size, Buddy heads to New York City to find his place in the world, and track down his father. But life in the big city is not all sugarplums and candy canes. His father is a “Scrooge” and his eight year old stepbrothe­r doesn’t believe in Santa. So it’s up to Buddy to realise his destiny and ultimately save Christmas.
