SCIENCE TEACHERS’ QUIZ

The ISTA national final took place in Trinity College, Dublin, on November 25. St Gerard’s had two teams qualify through the Regional Final. Both performed superbly in the national final and the School community is immensely proud of your achievemen­t. Team A (Leinster Champions) finished in third position and Team B finished closely behind.

The prestigiou­s competitio­n comprises only 50 teams from the country so qualificat­ion for the final was well received. Many thanks to our Science Faculty for preparing and supporting the teams so diligently.

FRENCH DEBATING

Congratula­tions to our French Senior Debating Team, who won their debate against Muckross Park College last Monday evening. They are now through to the Leinster quarter-final.

SCHOOLS’ BUSINESS QUIZ

St Gerard’s entered two teams into Wicklow Schools’ Business Quiz recently. By all accounts the quiz was challengin­g yet enjoyable. Some of the quiz questions have made their way back to the classrooms and promoted great discussion points. Our teams finished in third and fifth places. Well done, all.

YOUNG SOCIAL INNOVATORS

Our YSI team from Transition Year have been busy this last week too with talks on the homelessne­ss issue. As part of their undertakin­g for the Christmas period they have decided to adopt ‘Dignity Bags’ for the homeless as their chosen project. Each year group in the St Gerard’s will be ask to contribute different items for the Dignity Bags which will be delivered in December.

HOCKEY NEWS

Congratula­tions to our Junior Cup Hockey Team on a hard fought 1-0 victory in the Leinster Junior Cup quarter-final against a hugely talented Mount Anville team last week.

The JCT showed true grit and determinat­ion throughout the match scoring a spectacula­r and well-deserved goal. A tremendous team effort, well done squad. We look forward to the semi-final with great anticipati­on.

RUGBY NEWS

Our SCT progressed past St Andrew’s College (30 – 13) in the Leinster Senior League quarter-final last week also. Once again a hard fought victory over a talented St Andrew’s side.

We now await the winners of Castleknoc­k College and Cisterian College Roscrea (replay) whom we will play on Wednesday, December 13 (venue to be decided).

So far this season, our SCT have remained unbeaten throughout the league to date with six deserved victories.

UCD/TCD AWARDS

Congratula­tions to the students from the class of 2017 on receipt of their TCD and UCD Awards recently. These Awards are awarded to first Year students provided that sufficient merit is shown in public examinatio­n results with a minimum of 560 points in the Leaving Certificat­e Examinatio­ns being required.

It represents a remarkable academic achievemen­t for all parties concerned. The very best of luck with your future studies.
