Eileen stepping aside after 25 years

-

East Coast Bridge Club had their Christmas celebration last Thursday, and took the opportunity to thank Eileen Vickers for running the Thursday night club for 25 years.

After their game of bridge, the club enjoyed festive refreshments and a chat at the Little Flower Hall.

‘Bridge is an enjoyable and challenging game,’ said a spokesman for the club. ‘Played by people of all ages, it is the most popular and widely played card game of all.’

Twenty-five years ago, Eileen Vickers, a passionate bridge player, established the East Coast Bridge Club. Many years ago she taught a few friends the game and then established her own club to allow them to practice their new skills.

She has run the club for the past 25 years, providing a friendly atmosphere and bringing together a community of players to promote the game in Bray.

Throughout the years Eileen has welcomed and nurtured novice but recently decided to take a less active role in the running of the club.

A committee was formed to con- tinue the weekly game.

Eileen wishes the club every success and she will continue to support it in every way she can.

In recognition of the years Eileen has given to bridge in Bray, and specifically to the East Coast Bridge Club, a perpetual trophy will be established in her honour.

The East Coast Bridge Club continues to run every Thursday night at 7.30 p.m. in the Little Flower Hall, Holy Redeemer Church. New members are welcome and should contact Maureen (secretary) at 086 3265366.
