Annual Arklow charity swim has a new date

-

THE 8th annual Eamonn Burke Charity Swim takes place on Stephen’s Day and will certainly blow the cobwebs away after the Christmas Day indulgences.

In a change to the usual plans, the swim has moved from its New Year’s Day slot to St Stephen’s Day as the Arklow Lions Club are taking a break from their swim for 2017.

‘We can’t wait for the swim this year and we hope the weather will be kind to us. We also look forward to welcoming some of the Lions Club swimmers to our event this year,’ said Mary Burke, who organises the event with her husband Eamonn.

The couple started up the swim in aid of the Liver Unit in St Vincent’s Hospital which cared for Eamonn during his successful liver transplant.

Funds are being raised for the St Vincent’s Foundation and all participants are invited to take a sponsorship card and gather as much funds as possible.

The swim takes place at South Beach in Arklow at 1 p.m. and all are welcome to join in or simply come and cheer on the swimmers.

Fancy dress is optional but always adds an extra layer of fun to the occasion.

Refreshments will be served afterwards in The Bridge Hotel.
