ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS St Fergal’s NS, Bray

- By MARY FOGARTY

SENIOR infants at St Fergal’s National School in Bray are busy hatching plans to catch Santa in the act as he delivers their presents on Christmas Eve.

‘I’m going to catch Santa at Christmas, when I hear him say “ho ho ho”,’ said Casey, who is looking forward to getting some toys.

‘I don’t even know,’ said Casey when asked what he might bring. ‘I did do a letter but there was too much things.’

Meanwhile, she said that her brother managed to get a glimpse of Santa last year, so she plans to do the same.

A boy across the room said it’ll be hard for her to catch him because “he knows when you’re awake”. Another boy suggested using cameras to get a look at the big man.

‘I’ll only look down the stairs, he won’t know I’m there,’ said Casey. But other children were adamant that Santa can hear and see everything.

We asked Mason what’s important about Christmas time. ‘Em, I don’t know. We have holidays and we get presents and we give people stuff. It’s Jesus’ birthday.’

Santa will bring Mason some toys. ‘I’m only getting two things. I already picked them but didn’t write them on my letter yet. Army stuff and wrestlers.’

Aaron likes watching movies at Christmas with his mam, dad, his brother and three sisters. ‘I don’t have a favourite Christmas movie yet,’ he said. He’s hoping that Santa will bring him a Wii U.

Adam said that he and his family will watch movies on Christmas Day, perhaps the festive classic Jurassic World. ‘My brother always thinks Search for Tomorrow is a real movie. It’s something about where some people try to search for tomorrow.’

Adam has asked Santa for a Nintendo Switch, a remote control helicopter, a Nerf gun and a surprise.

According to CJ, Santa comes down the chimney.

‘I got him last Christmas. I hid under the fireplace and heard a bang. I went downstairs and hid under the table by the fireplace and then I saw him.’

CJ has been really good this year, and would like Santa to bring a bike. He has written and posted his letter.

One of the special things about Christmas, other than presents, is Christmas dinner, according to Dylan.

He will have ham, turkey and ham leg. We asked Dylan if he will have brussels sprouts. ‘Maybe. I don’t know what they even are.’

He would like Santa to bring him a spy drone. Dylan said that his brother Gary is really tall. He doesn’t know how old he is, but he has a girlfriend.

Steven said that the reason for Christmas is to get presents, and for Rudolph to eat. We asked if it was someone’s birthday at Christmas time. ‘Yes,’ said Steven, ‘my sister’s!’

Santa is going to bring the Lego Ninjago movie, a spy drone and a surprise. ‘I have like a hundred things in my house,’ he said.

Summer’s elf had recently come back when we spoke. ‘He moves around,’ she said. ‘He’s there to tell Santa if you’re good,’ she said.
