Lyons makes switch to Drogheda United

-

CHRIS LYONS has made Drogheda United his seventh League of Ireland club.

The 24-year old attacker will again ply his trade in the First Division next season having penned a deal with the Boynesiders.

Lyons spent last term at Tolka Park but found appear- ances and goals hard to come by for Owen Heary’s Shels side, managing just two in total. In his career, Lyons has togged out for UCD, Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers B, Bray Wanderers (two spells), Sligo Rovers, Shels and now Tim Clancy’s Drogheda side.

It is not the first time that Lyons has been linked with a move to Hunky Dorys Park though. In August 2016, having left Sligo Rovers by mutual consent, Lyons agreed verbal terms with United. They announced on the club’s official Twitter page that Lyons was a done deal, only for the Bray man to have a change of heart and return to the Carlisle Grounds leaving a red-faced United having to backtrack rapidly.

Lyons was Drogheda’s seventh confirmed signing for the 2018 season as they look to rebuild following their relegation from the Premier Division in 2017.

Drogheda’s manager is Tim Clancy, who spent 2017 as a player for Bray Wanderers. ANDY MCEVOY PREMIER 1
