HAPPY CHRISTMAS

As a very busy Term one draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the many successes and achievements, both curricular and extra-curricular, of our students over the past few months.

Once again our students have acted as fantastic ambassadors for the school and we are very proud of them. Thank you also to the management and staff of the school who have supported the students and encouraged them to achieve their potential.

Finally, thank you to the members of the board of management, the parents’ association and to all the parents whose ongoing support underpins all of our successes in the school. We wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.

FIRST YEAR PANTO TRIP

On Friday, December 8, first Year students, along with their tutors and Year Heads, Ms Smith and Mr Cassidy, travelled to Dublin to the pantomime ‘Rapunzel’ at the Gaiety Theatre. A fantastic day of laughter and festive fun was had by all.

ANTI-BULLYING

Last Monday week all students from First Year to TY attended an anti-bullying session with the singer/song writer Simon James. The session began with a very enjoyable performance by Simon, followed by an online safety and cyber bullying presentation, a question and answer session and, finally, an opportunity for autographs and photos with the singer.

The performance was engaging and an important message on bullying and online safety was delivered to a captive audience.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The CCM under-19 girls Basketball team played in a Regional Final against Coláiste Mhuire on Tuesday, December 12. The girls travelled to Oblate Hall in Inchicore in Dublin for the big game along with two bus loads of very loud CCM supporters. The starting team for CCM was Alba Galban, Kerry O’Toole, Lucy McGettigan, Lucy Hobbs and captaining the team Emma Cruise.

The girls defended well in the first quarter and Alban scored two beautiful three pointers. However Coláiste Mhuire managed to break down the CCM defence on a few occasions and by the end of the first quarter CCM we ahead only by two points.

Coláiste Mhuire got off to a good start in the second quarter and managed to get ahead by four points. Weronika Kuzio then came on and made a huge difference winning 50/50 balls and working hard to defend. This along with some sores from Emma and Alba brought CCM back on top at half time by four points.

The third quarter was very tense. Katie McAuley and Aoife Collier came on and were good additions to the CCM defence but again Coláiste Mhuire broke through and scored several baskets bringing the game to a draw three times during this quarter.

The final quarter saw CCM take the lead early on. Two baskets from Emma Cruise and good defending by Kerry O’Toole and Eva Franey kept CCM on top and although Coláiste Mhuire kept the pressure on till the final second CCM came out om top. The final score 62-47.

Well done to all the girls on the squad who have contributed throughout the whole season. Adelaide Kane, Siobhán Irons, Zoe Burn, Alison O’Shea, Laurie Doherty, Shelley Carr Culbert, Amber Synnott, Julie Carey, Niamh O’Toole played well during the league and helped to get the team to the final today.

FIRST YEAR SOCCER

The First Year team pulled off a fantastic victory over Arklow CBS last week, winning 2-1. A squad with depleted numbers were under pressure from the start and scored a brilliant goal courtesy of Mikey Merrigan, who placed a bullet of a shot in the top left corner. Arklow pushed back and were rewarded with a well taken goal. However, before half time, Adam Byrne assisted Ethan Snell to make it 2-1 to CCM.

A tough second half followed, however CCM stayed firm and could thank the outstanding Toby Lee Curran and Callum Ginbey in central defence and Conor Luddy in goal. A great victory for CCM which leaves qualification in our hands. Thanks to Luke Moran and Adam Kearns, who assisted today.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

CCM 2-10 Pres Bray 5-7: After a very low scoring first half two quick soft goals were the difference today. We were missing a few players through injury and sickness. We played some very good football at stages but missed two good goal chances in the first half and some bad missed points cost us. Luke Corcoran and Jack Healy played excellently. That’s CCM out of the Wicklow B now but still have Leinster with PDLS Bagnelalstown in the next round.

SOCCER

The CCM under-15 Soccer team travelled to a cold and windy Lamberton pitch last Wednesday. The prize on offer was to make it to the last eight of the Leinster under-15 Cup. Arklow CBS were the home team with a star studded line up. CCM were dealt a huge blow when Toby Lee Curran announced that he had picked up a slight injury. This meant a reshuffle to the starting line up. Max Kearney stepped in to replace Toby.

The game got off to a frantic start. Arklow had the wind at their backs and were dominating for the majority of the first 10 minutes. Not before time, CCM started to pass the ball and make runs of their own. A through ball from Eoin Doyle to Sam Brown saw Sam beat two players and blast into the left corner.

Things were looking good for CCM, till Arklow scored a header from a corner on the stroke of halftime. With the elements now favouring CCM there was massive pressure growing on the Arklow back four. Ross Quinn duly took advantage when he ran on to through ball from Reilly Hogan to bend the ball around the keeper. CCM two – Arklow CBS one.

The lead only lasted minutes as the Arklow number eight struck into the top left hand corner. Two all. Toby Lee was now feeling better and replaced Max Kearney. He made an immediate impact with a volley into the left corner, leaving the keeper no chance. Arklow responded almost immediately, making it three all.

With a result required on the day, tensions were high. CCM were awarded a corner. Sam Brown put in a perfectly weighted effort. With chaos in the Arklow backline an OG ensued with the Arklow defender driving the ball into the roof of his own net. The last 10 minutes were nailbiting.

Arklow kept coming back at us, but nothing was going to get through the back four of Shane Marah, Noah Sheridan, Conor Leonard and the outstanding player on the day, CCM’S Daniel Dunne. Final score CCM four – Arklow CBS three. Thanks to Seán Leonard, Mark Whelan and, of course, Owen Gregory for all their help on the day. be collected from each student as a fundraiser. Thanks to all for supporting.

HOCKEY

The first year hockey team will play Holy Faith, Clontarf with two home matches on Friday, December 15. We wish them all the best of luck.

2ND YEAR IRISH

The second year higher level Irish students have started a ‘pen pal’ system with Coláiste Mhuire in Trim, Co. Meath. They have just written their first letters to their pen pals and are eagerly awaiting their replies. This is a great way for the students to practice and improve their Irish writing skills.
