Our senior AGM was held recently and Noel (the boxer) Doyle was elected chairman on the night, Doyler was a sub on the 64 team and captained the championship winning team of 75 he will bring a winning mentality which hopefully filters down the line. The very best of luck to the new committee and a massive thank you to the outgoing chairman Ally Taylor and secretary Dominic Leech, who both have done trojan work for the club over the past few years.

Thanks also to our juvenile chairman Shay Power, who has stepped aside, Shay has served the club and its many juvenile members tremendously, the juvenile side has thrived and grown under his leadership, many thanks Shay.

The Wicklow GAA yearbook is now available to buy in the post office and we are well represented in it, it would make a great stocking filler for all GAA fans.

Tickets for the national draw are now available and as usual all money raised by the club goes to the club so if you’d like to buy or maybe even sell a few tickets please get in touch with any committee member. Tickets are great value at only €10 each and would be a great Christmas present to either give or receive.

Three people matched three numbers in last week’s lotto winning €70 each, no one however scooped the jackpot which rolled over this week to €3,200, numbers drawn were 2, 8, 16 and 23.

There is a good stock of club gear now available to buy for any enquiries regarding club gear please contact Amy at 086 3332195 or Ruth at 087 7472682.

Newtown GAA would like to wish all in the community a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

No on field action now till mid-February when the season will recommence with our 12’s and 14’s playing their two legged finals as a curtain raiser to the official calendar season. Up till then the WDSL will be running Futsal over the coming months at three venues across the county i.e. Aughrim, Arklow and Newtown at the following age groups under-nines (2009/2010), under-11s (2007/2008) and under-13s (2005/2006). For further information please contact our secretary Hughie at 087 6987653/ hughienolan@gmail.com.

Both our under-9 Red and under-11 Red teams were in Futsal action last weekend. In Newtown the 9’s lost to St Anthony’s 9-4 with the Newtown goals coming from a David McCormack hat trick and Gerry Hoban and they finished the day with a win, 4-3 over Greystones Orange with McCormack scoring another hat trick and Alex Mackey scoring the other goal.

The 11 reds were in Aughrim on Sunday and they suffered a very heavy defeat in their opening game to Ashford Rovers White. In their second game against Aughrim Rangers they came back from a goal down to register a 3-1 win with Luke Turley (2) and Darren Fisher scoring the goals. In their final game they played Shillelagh Sky and in this game they had to also come from behind as they turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 advantage. Our goalscorers in this game were William Valentine (2), Pat Carey and Aidan Heffernan. Both teams enjoyed the Futsal regardless of the results and will be looking forward to more Futsal in the New Year.

Our under-11 Black were unable to field a team on Sunday after a lot of withdrawals that we’ll put down to the busy Christmas period. Our 13’s team will have their first Futsal outing after Christmas on Saturday, January 13, in Newtown where their opponents will be Aughrim, Coolboy Rangers Girls and Sporting Greystones Red, while our under-nines Black team should also have their first outing on this weekend.

Week 7 of our Last Man Standing competition and the Players are starting to thin out a lot in the last couple of weeks. From last Saturdays games we lost another seven Players, who had selected Leicester City and Watford among others. With another coup of games to finish out the weekend a winner of our competition may not be too far away. Its €450 for the winner of the competition and you can keep up to date with the LMS on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Many thanks to everyone who has supported this fundraiser, it is very much appreciated.

We have three players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Aoibhe Perks from the Development Squad and two players from the under-11s Jack Daly and Matthew Doyle. Happy birthday to all three players from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC For further information on all matters Newtown Juniors FC please contact the secretary at 087 6987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail. com and you can also follow the club on our Facebook and Twitter page.
