SEASONS GREETINGS

Wishing all our the readers and contributo­rs of the Roundwood notes a very happy Christmas and healthy 2018. Thank you to Margaret Bolger for helping out through the year and to all of you for keeping the news coming. Look forward to plenty more for 2018.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Tickets go on sale for Beauty and the Beast tomorrow evening and they would make a great Christmas present. There will be a disco for children from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Friday December 22 and Roamin Cadillacs will be playing in Fannings on Saturday, December 23, as part of our fundraisin­g. Show dates are January 26, 27 and 28. Two evening shows and two matinees.

FUN DUATHLON

In associatio­n with the Roundwood and District Community Council, the Roundwood Fun Duathlon will take place on Wednesday, December 27, generously sponsored by Kavanagh’s Vartry House. This community event will provide a great opportunit­y for folk to shake off the Christmas cobwebs and test the new bikes that Santa brought while raising much needed funds for St Vincent’s and St James Cancer and Leukemia Research.

The route will consist of a five mile cycle and a one mile run and take in some of the Vartry Reservoirs trails. For families and those of a less competitiv­e nature, there is a shorter walk which will be entirely on footpaths or on the Vartry trails. An evening of great entertainm­ent is planned afterwards in Kavanagh’s Vartry House. A fun afternoon for all the family is guaranteed. Registrati­on from 1.30 p.m. at Kavanagh’s with a race start time of 2 p.m.

PARISH HALL

The Roundwood Parish Hall committee and staff would like to wish all their customers and supporters a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. Thank you for your continuing support.

EMPLOYMENT SCHEME

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

There will be a pilgrimage to Lourdes from Roundwood in September 2018. Names and €200 deposit before January 15, to Susan at 087 6273032. A pilgrimage to Knock will be on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8. More on both pilgrimage­s at a later date.

ALGARVE TRIP

There are a few places left on the three star Algarve Coast and Country trip will take place on February 27, for seven nights which will include visits to Silves, Lagos, Sagres and Faro. The cost will be €429 per person sharing. This will include breakfast and dinner in the Hotel Da Aldeia, Albufeira and day excursions and a one 10kg bag. CEILI DANCING

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

MONEYSTOWN CENTRE

Moneystown Community Centre would like to wish all our patrons a happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year, also we would like to thank everyone for all their support throughout the year.

Cards will continue as usual on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. while our Moneystown Dance will return on Friday, March 9. Thank you.

MEN’S SHED

We have a lovely couch with matching armchairs in the Shed but they are taking up too much room. So they are there for the taking. Talk to one of the Shedders or call 086 8650588 if you are interested.

One of our Shedders is working on a Facebook page for the Roundwood Men’s Shed. So if you click in you may see some photograph­s which he has posted.

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning badminton is back in full swing from 9.30 a.m. beginners always welcome. Some rackets are available.

MATHS LESSONS

Rebecca Delamere will be running maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall. Classes will be available for first to sixth year students and are designed to focus on common areas that students struggle with. Guaranteed small class sizes and places are limited. WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour in and around Roundwood village.

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no winner of this week’s lotto. The numbers drawn were 1, 14, 19 and 21. There were three match winners, Brendan Molloy, Kevin Gaffney and Adrienne Colgan. Next week’s jackpot will be €18,400

WHIST

Next whist will be on tonight Wednesday, December 20, in the Parish Centre.

SET DANCING

Set dancing continues on Thursday nights in Kavanagh’s lounge with an addition of giving jive lessons at 8.15 p.m. before our weekly session at no additional cost. Music this month by Michael and Brian.
