ST DAVID’S CHURCH

Christmas Celebratio­ns – Masses will be as normal on Saturday evening 6.30 0m and again on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The First Mass of Christmas will be at 9 p.m. on Sunday evening and again at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day. Wishing all our community a very happy Christmas.

SYMPATHY

The local community extend their deepest sympathy to Fanning family, Fort Road, Gorey, on the death of Jim Fanning.

Also deepest sympathy to his brother Edward (Ted) Fanning and family Gurteen, Gorey, also deepest sympathy to Jim’s brother-in-law Declan Merrigan and family, Monareigh. Jim’s burial took place in Ballyfad last Saturday after 11 a.m. Mass in St Michael’s Church Gorey.

Deepest Sympathy is also ex- tended Patsy Kavanagh, Fortcheste­r, Coolgreany and Marie Byrne, Croghan View, Coolgreany, on the recent death of their uncle Luke Kavanagh, Coolboy, Tinahely (formerly Ballyfad) whose burial took place in St Michael’s Gorey on last Friday.

COMMUNITY ALERT

There was a very worthwhile presentati­on on fire safety in the home by Ray Murphy, Assistant County Fire Officer last Thursday night, when a a large attendance assembled in the May Byrne House. After the presentati­on Ray Murphy provided free fire alarms to anyone who wished to avail of the offer.

A break-in took place in the local area on last Tuesday afternoon, and the Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have noticed anything unusual around our area to contact them at Gorey: 053 9430690.

The Community Alert are also appealing to all our local community to be very observant in the lead up to Christmas and thereafter of anything out of the ordinary and let some member of the Community Alert or the Garda Síochána know.

WEDDING BELLS

Congratula­tions to Joey Byrne, Croghan View, son of Joe and Bernie, and Marie Mulhall, Kilcavan, Gorey, daughter of Tom and Martha, who celebrated their wedding in St Kevin’s Church Tara Hill last Friday.

The couple held their reception in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey where a very large attendance of both families attended, and a very special guest was Joey’s brother Niall, who travelled all the way from Colorado USA to be with his brother on this very memorable day. It was a most enjoyable day, greatly enjoyed by all involved.

COOLGREANY DRAMA

Congratula­tions to Coolgreany Amateur Dramatic Society on their great win in the all-Ireland Final in Letterkenn­y. Last Saturday night they were feasted with a great reception in O’Rafferty’s Lounge, where a great night was had by all.

Tonight December 19, the group will present the brilliant Comedy, ‘Many Happy Returns’ by Bernard Farrell in Inch Hall. They will again put on the play on December 28, 29 and 30 in Inch Hall. The Admission each night is €10 at the Door, or Tickets can also be bought at Coolgreany post office, or Phone 087 2913222.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €3,200, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. and Liam Clare. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Sellers Prize.

There was one lucky-dip winner in the last draw, with Michael Ward, Newtown receiving €30. Your support is very much appreciate­d by the club. Happy Christmas.

ROAD BOWLS

Road bowling will be played on Sunday, December 31, at 2 p.m. in Ballyfad in aid of the Duathlon for Jim and Liam McCarthy. Entry is €40 for a team of four. Contact 087 2223230 for informatio­n.

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

I would like to wish a very happy Christmas to everyone who helped and provided me with notes and local news for notes the in the Guardian/Wicklow People over the past year, and thank you for your efforts, and hope that will continue in 2018.
