Speeding charges

THREE motorists had speeding charges dealt with at Arklow District Court on Wednesday, December 20.

Charges were struck out for two defendants who gave evidence in relation to the fixed penalty notices.

Larry Connors from 18 Carrigbawn, Bunclody, Co Wexford was charged with speeding at 91km/h in an 80km/h zone at Roddenagh, Aughrim, on January 22, 2017.

He told the court that he has lived at that address all his life but did not receive the notice, and therefore had no opportunit­y to pay.

Anthony Byrne from 22 Beechwood Park, Tinahely, was charged with speeding at 90km/h in an 80km/h zone at Roddenagh, Aughrim, on May 14, 2017.

The court heard that he only received a notice the week before the deadline to pay the fine and that when he went to do so it wa declined by the Post Office.

Both matters were struck out. Meanwhile, a fine of €260 was imposed on Benjamin Stafford of Hillbrook, Gorey, who was convicted of speeding at Tinakilly, Aughrim, on June 9. 2017.
