- By MARY FOGARTY

Purple House Cancer Support provided 4,275 cancer support sessions during 2017.

These were from their cancer support centre in Bray, and the cancer support group in the Lexicon Library in Dun Laoghaire.

Thanks to the generosity and support from the people in County Wicklow, they have been able to help 186 newly diagnosed families in County Wicklow, according to Purple House.

Throughout the year, 247 counselling sessions were provided by their team of counsellors and a team of volunteer drivers completed 465 trips to various hospitals bringing people in for their cancer treatment.

Uptake for their support services for children increased during the year and these included child and adolescent counselling, the CLIMB programme to help children deal with a parent’s diag- nosis, therapy through art, camps and social activities.

‘As a community-based charity, celebrating 28 years of service next year, we are indebted to the communities of County Wicklow for their support in helping us to provide vital cancer support services and psycho-oncology services in the community,’ said director of services Veronica O’Leary.

‘We could not do it without you.’ Purple House Cancer Support operates a full-time cancer support centre on Parnell Road in Bray. The facility is now closed for Christmas but will re-open next Tuesday, January 2, at 10 a.m.

The monthly cancer support group in the Lexicon Library, Dun Laoghaire, takes place on the first Tuesday of each month from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. There will be no group in January.
