Erica’s queen bee

-

FIRST Years at Loreto took part in a ‘spelling bee’ at their school recently. This was part of the literacy initiative within the school.

Helping students to express themselves clearly both orally and in writing enhances and enriches learning in all subjects. This benefits students and teachers across all departments. The Spelling Bee is seen as a fun way of encouraging students to improve on this area of their learning.

Thirty students participated in the semi-finals of the competition in the Concert Hall. The standard was so high that 11 students went forward to the final of the competition.

After a tension filled 30 minutes of spelling words such as ‘ tyrannical’, ‘misspelling’ and ‘ultimatum’, Erica Brierton (Class 102) was crowned First Year Speller of the Year.
