NEW BOOK MARKS 100 YEARS OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH

-

A SPECIAL commemorative book was launched in Chester Beatty’s to mark the 100th anniversary of the Holy Rosary Church in Ashford.

The former Governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lonergan, officially launched the publication which features articles and features on life in Ashford village, dating back from 100 years ago right up to the modern era.

The launch was attended by over 60 members of the local community, including members of the editorial team who put the book together, such as Ann Lyons.

‘It has been a busy year and we felt a special book would be a nice way to commemorate the occasion. So far the book is doing very well and it has received a wonderful reception,’ she said.

‘ There are old pictures of Ashford from the past all the way up to the present day. Different clubs and organisations in the locality also made their own contributions.’

‘Holy Rosary Church Ashford 100 Years’ is priced €10 and is available for purchase from Bridge Street Books in Wicklow town, Ashford Post Office, Martsworth in Ashford, Chester Beatty’s and the Parish Office in Wicklow.

The church building was completed in 1917, after the foundation stone had been laid some years earlier. A number of different events have taken place during the year, with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin attending a special Centenary Mass in the Holy Rosary Church in the summer.
