Dead pony found in stream at Fernhill

December 1993

-

A STREAM on the outskirts of Arklow, used by people who will not drink the town water, had a dead pony lying in it, shocked Town Hall officials heard last week.

Council manager Eddie Breen promised an immediate investigation of the stream, which flows down from Glenart, after hearing the alarming news of the dead pony from Cllr Denis Kinsella.

Cllr Kinsella told the council of seeing people going out the Vale Road with all types of plastic containers to get water from this stream thinking they were getting a better supply than from their own taps.

And Mr Breen heard from cllr Sean Wolohan that the water in Fernhill was still not good and he assured the officials that the majority of people up there were drawing water from elsewhere.

Mr Breen said they had not solved the water problem in Fernhill yet and that was the reason why they were looking for an additional new supply, which would improve the water to Fernhill when it is piped into the system.

Cllr Tom Clandillon said that they had blown out the water mains and something must be badly wrong to say they still had a problem with the water at Fernhill.

He called on Town Hall officials to call in the experts to find out what was going on and surely with modern-day technology they should be able to solve the problem.
