Insurance claims could cost county council £500,000
December 1991
PUBLIC LIABILITY insurance claims against Wicklow County Council not yet finalised could cost between £400,000 and £500,000, Co Manager Blaise Treacy has revealed.
And Mr Treacy is continuing to express concern at the overall cost of insurance premiums, particularly the ones to cover public and employer liabilities.
The Manager said that in general, claims do not mature for settlement for up to two to three years after an incident takes place.
‘ The council carries the first £25,000 of each public liability claim and pays a reduced premium under this heading because of the excess which is being carried. The majority of the claims are settle for less than £5,000,’ he said.
Mr Treacy pointed out that negotiations are in progress with the Department of Education in relation to pubic liability insurance on long distance routes such as the Wicklow Way.
‘It is hoped that these negotiations which will include financial contributions from Cospoir, will be concluded in the coming months,’ Mr Treacy added.
