BRAY ARTS MONTHLY SHOW IS ON THE MOVE
The Bray Arts Show will have a new home for 2018. The first performance evening of the year will take place at Jim Doyle’s on Tuesday, January 9, at 8 p.m.
Glasgow natives Jack and Angela Plunkett will perform and there will be a talk by Mariana Saad on the life of artist Leonora Carrington.
Jack and Angela are originally from Glasgow, but have lived in Dublin for more than 20 years. They describe their music as having three strands: traditional Scottish songs, American folk-blues and, increasingly, Jack’s own compositions. Their songs are delivered with close harmonies, deft fingerstyle guitar and a warm genuine feeling for the music.
Jack and Angela perform regularly at singing sessions in the Dublin area and elsewhere. Their ‘ home’ session is the Bray Singers’ Circle of which they are two of the organisers.
Mariana Saad will present a talk and photos on the life of Leonora Carrington, an English-born Mexican artist, surrealist painter and novelist. She lived most of her adult life in Mexico City and was one of the last surviving participants in the Surrealist movement of the 1930s. She was also a founding member of the Women’s Liberation Movement in Mexico during the 1970s.
The Bray Arts was founded 21 years ago as a forum for both arts practitioners and anyone with an interest in the arts.
They hold a performance evening each month. Admission is €5 or €4 concession.
