Charity soccer matches

-

The annual Glencormac United Charity matches took place on Wednesday, December 27, in Ryders Field. The first game was for the Joe Molloy Memorial shield where the Coaches were all out for revenge this year against Karl Bradshaws under-14 Squad and won a great game 3-2 with Paul Prendergast netting the vital winner for the coaches team and is now engaging on a tour of the county with the shield and a video of his goal. After the game, Joe’s wife Mary and sons Patrick and Joey presented the shield to Paul.

There is not many under-14s in Wicklow that can say they played against 100 times Capped Irish International but this team can and a massive thanks to Damien Duff for playing the second half. Then it was the Benny Finnerty Cup whereby the current Glencormac Team faced former stars with a few special guests and managed by Bray Wanderers Legend Ciaran ‘Tarzan’ O’Brien. The ex-players took the lead early on but the present team rallied to win the game 3-1. All money raised on a bitterly cold day are shared between the Irish Heart Foundation and Bray Cancer Support Group, who are always very appreciative of the money they receive each year and delighted to report that both will receive €310 each after expenses.

Glencormac United FC chairman Christy Devlin would like to thank everyone for their support in 2017 and wish you all a very happy New Year.
